buzzing Osmolator

Osmolator - new pump. I had used it for 2 years plus years and within the last year bought a new pump to have on hand as these pumps are said to have like a 2 year life - my old pump was working fine - anyway I hooked up the new pump and the video below shows a buzzing which just is not right. I tried to turn the pump upside down, etc to bleed off air and it just does not quit buzzing. It just whines its usual whine outside of the water but as soon as it primes... I also tried 12 volts from 9 with the switchable power supply - it just increased the RPMs and the buzzing persisted. Any help would be appreciated.

I would agree it doesn't sound right, it sounds like something is inside the pump. With a new pump on an old osmolator you have to use 9V, the older osmolator could only handle 800mA and the new pumps have a double seal and use about 1000mA at 12V but less than 800mA at 9V. I would try shaking the pump and see if you can hear something inside and ideally get it to come out. My guess would be a small piece of plastic is inside, they drill the impeller and press it on the shaft and in doing so sometimes a stray piece of plastic ends up in the pump. Keep me posted, worst case if you cannot get the noise to go away I will replace it.

I'll give it a try - thanks

Roger,
I came home, shook it, thumped it whilst running and otherwise tried to shake anything loose - but I can not hear any thing loose. It seems to be grinding against somethng inside. Address where I can send it? Maybe you can shake it better.

Sounds good, I would like to see what is wrong but we will most likely just replace it as I will probably cut it open to check it out.

i want to know too - after I thumped/shook/etc - the noise was a tiny bit less - I thought of letting it run for a while to see if it would just wear down the numb - but if it fixed it and I then installed it in a tight spot - Murhpy's Law would get me and it would start again...
