Byropsis and Magnesium treatment?

Okay so I have started dosing Kent's Tech M

I have been dosing 36ml per for the first few days....
Didn't notice any results so bumped it up to 54ml a day.....this fit about 3 days...
Didn't notice any results....
Bumped it up to 72ml a day for 3 days...no results....
I will be doing my magnesium test later today to see what the levels are at. Just waiting for my dose to get into the water column...

I have gone through a full 16oz bottle of Kent's Tech M and it's still growing and doesn't seem brown or likes it's losing life..

It's a 36g DT. No sump (yet)

Is this possibly the type that is Magnesium Proof and I'm just screwed?

Side note...I did add a 7ml dose of aqua vitro calcium 2ce in there as well. As last time I tested I was at 360

the high level of mag isnt directly the cause of byprosis die off. its a compound of the mix. from memory i think its iodine or an element like that? there has been constant discussions over the past years as to whether or not kent tech M formula works on byprosis anymore? simply raising mag does not so if its not working i wouldnt keep using it!
try looking up peroxide against byprosis. targeted attacks against this pest has worked for others well and isnt going to screw up your perametres. hope this helps?

Okay thank you so much....Yeah I haven't had much success at all....I will research that...I even put majority of the byropsis I manually removed from my rock in a bucket with fresh water and vinegar...that was over a week ago and it's just starting to die.....the stuff is insanely resilient...unless it holds the green colour after death...

So I did my test last night....after a full bottle of Kent's Tech M I'm still not over 1500...I'm checking again tonight....did 3 days lights out....Nothing....grrr I really don't like this stuff it's between some of my polyps

yeah its the worst of the invaders and lights out does nothing for it tbh.. have you tried the hydrogen peroxide route. cheap stuff from the pound shop will do the trick and just target the root of the byprosis

It takes a lot of magnesium solution to raise your magnesium levels, the formula should be on the back of the bottle. Limit the increases to 109ppm per day, but you are going to need over a quart to raise your magnesium to over 1900ppm which is the level needed. Some reefers have needed to raise the magnesium to 2200ppm to kill all the bryopsis. You would be wise to buy a gallon jug as I don't think a quart will do the job.

Yeah I have the 16oz bottles got 1 more to go through....it's only a 36g DT. I have only been doing a little 36ml - 72ml a day though.

+1

Okay so...now with that in mind...the back states...1ml per gallon will raise parameters 18.x per day....18x6=108 so on the safe side I could do 5.5ml per gallon for a total of 198ml/day to raise parameters roughly 108ish per day....damn I'm going to need a lot of solution.....

Two Reef Calculators for you. First link has Kent Marine M Tech

People always say it's the Kent Marine's and that's true but I've got rid of it with Brightwell's liquid mag too.

Either way it's going to be like "thegrun" said: It's gonna take a lot of product!

Also, while raising your Magnesium levels, you need to keep an eye on your Specific Gravity. Adding this much Magnesium will raise your SG significantly.

I don't think the Kent TechM works any more. I just went through two 64oz bottles over the past couple of months on a 40g tank. My mag levels were up to 1900 for a few weeks, then 2100 for a few weeks, then up to 2300 for three weeks. I'm ramping back down now, and there has been no visible effect to the bryopsis.

Grr Yeah I ordered another gallon but so far 2 16oz bottles and nothing Mag levels around 1800...

Got to get it over 2000...

If you already ordered it you have nothing to lose.

I used Brightwell's last spring and it knocked out of my reef is short orderer .

Maybe I just got lucky...

Yeah I am going to go through what I ordered and if that doesn't do anything I will be trying a different supplement.

Dose with Kent and keep you mag at 1900+ for 3 months or more for the best chance of success. When you see them melt away, it doesn't mean they are dead or gone. Spores are still in the rock.

Yeah that's most likely what I'm gunna do
Been doing a lot of reading on the subject and general consensus is keeping it there for a long time

I just recalculated as I added a 29g sump/Fuge.

Says I will need 50oz to get me to 1900 from 1450...this gallon will get me there....and then after that do I just follow regular dosing instructions to keep it there?

Test Mag in new salt water (different salt have different Mag level). Calculate how much supplement you need to bring the change water volume to 1900+. Dose after water change, wait few hours, then test your tank water to make sure that your calculation is correct.

It is OK to go higher on Mag but not lower. After few water changes, you will get the hang of it and know exactly how much supplement you will need after water change.
