Guys' we have two options for the Coral of the month for October. I'm posting a Poll so everyone vote ASAP and let us know what you would like for us to make frags of. Pics of the mother colonies will be posted on the C-sea.Org site this evening.

Price for the Maricultured Lime Green Montipora spumosa frags will be $20.00 per frag. Frags will be 1.5"-2" in size.

Price for the ORA Royal Blue Acropora Toruosa would be $30.00 per frag. Frags will be .5"-.75" in size.

These frags will NOT be fresh cut, but moounted on floral pics and allowed to start growing for a couple weeks.

I love the montipora species. So that is what I voted for. I will buy either one though as both are great.

I am trying to set it up so that you can pay for them online at the C-sea Website. There is going to be 4 ORA Royal Blue frags available. It will be first paid gets them.

Since there was so much of a response we are going to offer the 4- Blue Tort frags and 8- of the Lime Green Monti. Frags. Amy is working on something to get a way for people to pay via pay pal through the club. As soon as this is done then you can order the frags. It will be done first paid is the first to get them. Any questions on payment please send an e-mail or PM to any of the board members as we are NOT accepting payment for the coral of the month.

Lets put this one on hold till the club officer meeting this week. I talked with Chuck, and he thinks we need a better way to do the coral of the month, I agree. Coral of the month is ment to learn about a new coral and have a couple of them forsale, not a venue to sell 12 frags to the club. First come first serve isn't a fair way to play either, Theres a good number of people that don't play the online game, including the club president.
Thanks Mike
Erik

I agree that it was for people to learn, but at the last meeting you , chuck and others told me that you didn't want anything extra in the meeting raffle and instead wanted something to be posted on the website. Chuck had talked about doing this exactly as the way it was done this month. I thought you guys just wanted something fraggable that could be shared amongst everyone and to make some money for the club. Someone needs to figure this out or we're just going to bow out. I can't keep putting work into everything just to be told that "nope we don't want it that way either"!!!! We make NOTHING off of this, it was just supposed to be to help fill a niche in the club. It's impossible to have something NEW or unusual every month. Right now we're still trying to get everything setup and stocked and these frag swaps take a toll on our supplies.

Someone please figure this out and let us know!!!

Yep, we will figure this out and let you no soon. We all no you make nothing on this and neither will the club if theres 20 coral items per month at a meeting. We will get this figured out soon.
Sorry Erik

A suggestion (or two).

At the monthly meetings have people who are interested in NEXT months coral draw numbers. At the following meeting, go through the numbers in order and offer those people the option to buy whatever one they want from the frags remaining. Work your way down the list until all frags are sold or nobody has a number. If there are still left, just open them up to anyone. It encourages people to show up at the meetings and is fair to anyone willing to show up. You must be present to get your coral. Can even do it so that you can only draw a number for the next coral if you didn't get anything that month.

If you want to maximize revenue, hold them at auction. State how many frags will be available for the next meeting and take bids for them up until 1 week before the next meeting. The highest bidders win and pay the amount that the lowest winner bid. It will keep people from signing up for every frag they can and make sure that the frags go to the people who really want them, not just those with luck or frequent internet access.

My $0.02

Not bad ideas, but are we making this too complicated? We wanted this to be educational, but I didn't think everyone wanted fresh cut frags. We could do a short fragging session (regardless of the coral) to show how and where to properly frag that type of coral. Or we can just do them ahead of time. Just let us know.

Hi All,

Via Reef Central or the Csea web site decide on what coral to buy
and have people pay for it let's say at the Oct. Csea meeting(cash). Then at the Nov. meeting bring in the coral and frag it up. Can it be that simple? No pay pal or Visa funnies.

My 2 cents worth
Dave

Guess it depends on what the reason behind the Coral of the Month is. If it's mostly educational and to demonstrate fragging, then bring one and we can figure out a way to distribute frags (see above). If it's more to to cut up colonies so that everyone can afford a frag, then we can order/pay in advance and everyone can get one.

I dont feel comfortable paying in advance sight unseen as some corals
are brighter than others, just my take

The problem too is that trying to do it a month in advance means I have to keep a coral for at least 6-8 weeks before it actually goes to the club, and I'm also afraid that something might happen like a colony RTN or something like that after everyone has paid for pieces of it. What do other clubs do??

I looked around to answer that very question Mike and all I could find (granted I didn't spend a LOT of time looking) was that they just discuss the coral and its characteristics, husbandry, and how to propagate it. There was no actual coral used, it was only about education like you stated. Maybe bring in one coral, talk about the above and then raffle off that one at the end of the meeting. If the winner wants to frag it up, then that is their perogative.

My $.02 :)

I liked having them in the Raffle I think we should get a colony frag it put 1 or 2 frags in the raffle and have what's left for sale

Just my opinion

When I first joined the club there was much discussion about the COTM. At the initial conception it was to be able to get frags of a really nice colony at a reasonable price. If we all decided that we wanted to do a purple millepora then we would post that this is the coral that you will get (with pictures) Then the coral would be fragged the day of the meeting by whoever was going to be in charge of this and brought in as many pcs as requested online.

If there was a no-show then the piece could be bought by anyone at the meeting interested. We had discussed that if we could find someone interested in letting the frags heal in their system before the meeting that would be great. That's one reason I was happy when I heard Mike was volunteering for the COTM. The idea was not to make money for the club or to get reduced prices from vendors. It was purely to have several guys get something that they normally couldn't or wouldn't just go out and buy. If your frag came home and just bleached out then it was probably due to your husbandry but you knew that there would be 8 or 9 other guys that might be growing theirs out fine and you might be able to ask what they did differently and get a frag of theirs later.

We had even talked about how it would be fun to have a 6 month or 12 month grow out contest for the frags and the guy with the most growth might win something like a free frag from the next colony. What would it cost, a dollar or 2 from each participant to buy the winner their frag?

The whole idea as I understood it was that we could get a large colony for $150 and each get a nice-sized frag for $15 (if there were 10 guys that time)

It has changed a lot since then and lots of people have different ideas of what it should be (in their opinions) but we have Mike just trying to do this to help out and he doesn't know what it is that he should be doing. I feel sorry for Mike as I know how it stinks when the expectations change as you are trying to do what was originally asked of you.

Thanks to Mike and Danielle for trying to make this a money-making thing for the club and offering your help for free. I just hope we get it ironed out soon so you can figure out what you need to do.

My 2 cents.

Hi All,
The way Kevin explained it kinda sounds right to me. Decide on the coral, buy it,frag it. Keep it simple. If you decide on the coral and then time it right the coral should only sit in someone's tank for 2-3 days. Yeah it could RTN, but that could happen to any SPS in anyone's tank. You pay your money, you take your chances.
Maybe we can buy the coral out of Mike660R tank, he looks like he has some nice big heads.
