After watching several of the posts today that resulted in a few members being banned, I thought I should offer my 2 cents. Whether or not we agree with some of the policies of this site or not, we are guests utilizing a free service. I understand the frustration, however, attacking the mods will only result in getting banned and reflecting negatively on C-Sea as a group. I wasn't particularly happy about what happened with Erik either, however, there is a time and place for everything and this is not it.

I intend to recommend to the rest of the board that we research resurrecting the C-Sea forums on our own site. I think its vital for the health of the organization at least as a back up or a place for issues that are not appropriate here. With that being said, I also think if we decide to go that route, it should be for members only.

Again, I ask on behalf of the club that everyone cool off a bit and try to be a bit more constructive.

There are ongoing conversations between Erik and the moderator handling his issue. That is the only avenue that has any chance of rectifying the situation.

None of what has been going on in this forum helps the process.

Seems like people are just mad at how the mods treat the C-Sea member forum, attacking how people write is just down right rude and only makes people more mad.

I do not think the mods are just cracking down on C-Sea, they are doing the same thing to the CORA group. As we have started using a new forum created by a member of our group. Anyways figure I would say what I thought as a outsider looking in. Good Luck

I agree. In the meantime, to play devil's advocate, we have had considerable infighting within the club in the past. Utilizing our own forum could open a separate can of worms as it will not eliminate the discontent entirely. I thinks its a good idea and definitely worth pursuing. However, whether under the RC flag or C-Sea, we will have to have some guidelines and some sort of moderation.

I second that Thus the mod in moderation .....Ie.. not the place or time ....that place and the time will be provided ...well said Jeff

Ah calm down, noone liked them anyway :) j/k. seems like i missed all the good stuff on my way back from hawaii!

A little perspective goes a long way. A few years back I attended a few C-Sea meetings and found the group to be an interesting group of people truly interested in the reef keeeping hobby and sustainability of our natural resources. The personal attacks, bad language, and mob mentality the last few weeks is discouraging. It is sad to learn that such a great organization has degraded to the point that this is going to be the major topic of discussion at the next meeting.:(

There's nothing wrong with the club or anybody in it. Degredation isn't going to be the topic. I was referring to the issue of initializing our own forum.

The problem with having our own forum is that we had one once and nobody used it. Using RC allowed people from other clubs (especially CORA) to add their comments which was helpful. I think on our own we are just too small to sustain a forum. Maybe we should look at joining forces with CORA on a forum.

It would be hard to seperate what to post on RC versus our internal forum. Obviously OT threads would be best for there, but Eric's post had nothing wrong with it and he got in trouble for it. I don't think anyone would have thought twice about posting that item for sale. Since we can never know when the mods will strike we are left with posting 100% on the CSea boards which takes us back to before...when there wasn't enough traffic to support a forum.

That is my biggest concern. If I recall correctly, our old forum board didn't get much activity. On the flip side, I believe the club owns all the required software, etc. so we could give it a shot without a lot of expense.

It still seams that the C-sea forums are unfairly targeted. I've been lurking on the other club forums just to see if they treat every one the same. A good case and point is the thread on the CORA forum thats off topic but is 3 pages long, come on now wheres the consistancy.

I highly doubt the mods target this forum... now someone might target it and report threads that violate or nearly violate the TOS, but thats not the mods/rc's fault, they prolly groan every time a thread gets reported here -- :c).

I am lost as to your point. What is "inconsistent" about an off-topic thread on another club forum?

Let's not discuss another member's account. You don't have all the information to make that judgment, and it isn't going to be publicly released.

Brian some of the guys here are afraid to post for sale threads could you or Doug outline what is acceptable and what is not?
