Ca Reactor Question

I have a Geo Calcium Reactor which I have had running for 3 months. This thing is great. It stabilized my Ca & Alk levels.

Anyway, I noticed today that the inside of my reactor was very cloudy & the remaining media is like mush. I think I remember reading that means that my PH inside my reactor is too low. In fact, it was 6.0 when I looked at the Ph meter. It is normally around 6.7-6.8. I shut the reactor down & took it apart & cleaned it.

What would cause my ph to be so low? Is it an indication that my CO2 is empty?

Can I use the remaining media that is like mush once I get it up & running again?

Any suggestions would be great!

I think when your CO2 gets really low you might notice an erratic bubble count. I think you just added too much CO2 to your reactor obviously. If I were you i'd replace your media or I'd guess that it will clump up on you again. I'd get a PH monitor for your reactor to keep this from happening in the future.

Thanks for the reply Chris. I do have a ph monitor inside the reactor. That is what was giving me the 6.7-6.8 reading that dropped to 6.0

My tank is probably really low & that caused my problem. Time to fill it up. :)

They're not cheap, but you may want to consider a pH controller. Set the pH at your desired level and the controller will maintain the pH for you. No more messing around with bubble counts.
