Ca reactor.

I don't have room for my calcium reator near my tank.

My topoff for the tank is fed from the basement where there is lots of room.

Can I hook up the calcium Reactor to the freshwater topoff.


Do they work with freshwater?


Does anyone see any problems?

I dont think that it will work in fresh water and or even if it will, I dont think you would have much luck trying to config it remotely to a container that is not constantly circulating with water from the tank. For this app, you are probably better off using kalk OR a 2 part additive to mix with the topoff water.

I don't see any reason it wouldn't work on freshwater, however, you'll never get enough calcium in the tank that way without putting in enough fresh water to seriously drop the salinity.

There is a problem with running it off of your top off water. Ca has a much higher solubility in seawater than in freshwater. So you are really doing yourself a large disservice by running it off of the top off. In seawater, high magnesium levels interfere with the precipitation of CaCO3 by incorporating itself into growing crystals and stopping them from growing. In freshwater, without this magnesium, calcium readily precipitates out. Just use kalk if you are going to use it with your auto top off.

I don't know about other Ca reactors, but I have mine in a closet where I put a hole above the baseboard and put the tubingh through. It is 15 feet from the tank. It is an MTC Ca reactor.

i agree with billsreef your ro/di is already @ 7 ph wise and even if salinity was not an issue the ro/di wouldnt be able to uptake a sufficent amount of cal/carbonates due due low chloride content of the water (your effluent would prolly turn into cal. carbonate b4 it would do your reef any good!
