CADLight 8 gallon Build

Just received my 8g last night and also got the wrong pump, even after I noted on my order that I wanted to make sure I recieved the correct pump. But I sent an email from their website and had a response in three minutes saying that they are sending me a new pump. Overall, I am pretty impressed with the tank though...

A couple of the dividers in mine weren't adhered well either. Since it's acrylic, it shouldn't be a big thing to fix since you only need a little acetone or methylene chloride run along the seam and seal it.

Same here. They may have been jarred loose in shipping or something. I'm not too worried. I had the same thing happen with my JBJ 28 gallon and it's an easy fix.

I dont know about this. I didnt pay considerable money to have to put it together. I am not good at siliconing and will probably get it everywhere. Hopefully they can do something for me.

Understandable. It's best to get what you paid for. Sometimes it can be easier to just fix then wait on the company to make things right, but that's not easier for everyone. Hope it works out, so far CADlights customer service has been top notch in my experience.

My pump is suppose to be here today, so it looks like I can pull out my Rio and get this bad boy doing it's thing.

Pump arrived. FJ-08.... so, I was a little bummed, but decided to throw it in the tank anyways. It has decent flow and I'm getting ripples across the top of the water. It even picked up my dragon's breath algae I have in there and threw it around the tank. It's pretty much what I expected from a stock pump, and seemed to put out more flow than Austinchap was experiencing. Not sure why.

I'll still add a koralia nano once I have some rock in. I like more flow and random flow so that should help. I don't think this tank is enough flow once it's fully stocked, but a single return pump rarely is.

On a side note, the overflow fits pretty tight with the water pressure from the tank without a mod. It appears to be working normally as far as I can tell.

A shipment of goodies came in today.
-Nano mag from two little fishies
-Tunze ATO
-Spin Stream from innovative marine
-JBJ nano glo fuge light

Fuge light fits perfect. Im not sure if you can burn macro algae but this thing is bright in there.

Here you can see the placement of the Finnex heater which leaves room in the other compartments.

Spin stream. Not really worth three times the amount of the Hydor flo. Size is about the same and the spin stream is louder. just thought some of you might want to know.
Hydor flo is roughly 10 bucks.
Spin stream is 30 bucks.

I set up the Tunze ATO.
Im not sure how much water has to evap before the pump kicks on so ill have to check how much my salinity swings if any.

The ATO container...
Like some of you said, I could put a container behind the tank. If you don't want to, this is hidden and easy to get to. It also would work if the tank wasn't in the corner.

I placed a large cup inside like some of you suggested as it is a metal container. Thanks!

Pump and hose were fed through the back.

Final product.

On a crappy note. The strong magnet in the two lil fishies nano mag picked up a lot of "metal" pieces from the sand? I don't know if i should be worried or not. i was cleaning the glass and pushing the sand out of the way. when i finished i had a large piece and a bunch of little sand grade pieces....
i used 10lbs of "Carib Sea Sand Live Fiji Pink"

Very nice setup Austin! Though I'm not sure your going to need to dose anything. WC's should take care of any deficiencies.

I wouldnt be worried about the sand sticking to the magnet.

Luckedout, I think he's about 2 weeks in, so its likely he's not done.. But I cant definitively give that answer.

Yea I wasn't sure if I needed to dose or not.
I'll check my water parameters this weekend and see where I'm at with the cycle. I placed a whole cube of mysis in there about 3 days ago. I'll see if that gave me any kind of readings and throw another cube in the back to see if I get any spike. A week after the set up all the tests read zero.
I do have a good population of copepods starting!

What brand test kit are you using and which parameters are you testing for?

Copepods population is a good sign to say the least. :)

For Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate I'm using the API kits. All my other test are done with salifert tests.

Along with the copepods, two bristle worms and a mini bristle star has shown up.

It's hard to tell with the light as I don't have anything in there to base growth off of. It doesn't look bright enough for SPS but I have heard They would live just not grow.

Tests have stayed at zero so I went ahead and threw a piece of my zoa colony and a Kenya tree in there. I like the color it shows.

Just a couple hermits. No snails. How many of each do you guys recommend? The zoas and Kenya tree are happy in there. The zoas haven't started reaching for light yet. Hope they don't!
Now that everything is working I like the tank. Still mad about the pumps they sent... Why not change it on the sight and say 70gph pump instead of 110? I got the tank for the sale price so with the purchase of the maxi it brought the tank back up to the 200 they sale for.

You could probably use a couple astrea snails, maybe some ceriths to stir up the sand, but it doesn't look like an immediate concern. When you start getting a little algae growing then you could add them.

I hate this early setup stage of waiting. I just want to add some life, but can't.

Yea I had a small brown algae bloom on the sand that went away over night with some chemi pure elite. I don't really have a lick of algae now.
