So after being out of the hobby for about a year and a half im ready to start my third tank. My first was a jbj 12 gallon, then a 20 long needless to say I've learned patience in key in this hobby. For the year I was out I would spent many late nights lurking the forums sucking in as much information and advice as I could and now it is time.

Went by my lfs today and picked up a bag or live sand.
This thursday Im ordering a 12 gallon tank from cadlights, along with a refugium clamp light and hydor rotator.

Heres a link to the tank http://www.cadlights.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=41&products_id=193

As far as stocking goes Im planning on a pair of clowns, some sort of gobie, and lots of soft corals I love the look of overgrown tanks.

Hope you follow along and any advice, tips, or help would be much appreciated

Today my tank came in the mail this is what I saw when I opened the box

As you can see it looks like fed ex tossed it off the truck. I contacted both fedex and cadlight immediately and filed a claim. Anna from cadlights was very helpful and sent out another 12 gallon today. Tomorrow my package from drfostersmith arrives and hopefully it will be in better condition.

On a lighter note here is a pic from my old 20l

I swear I saw this exact same thing happen a couple of weeks back. Bummer that you have to go through the trouble, and more importantly the wait, of getting another :(

I wouldnt have been able to put rock in till next week but still I wanted to at least put all my equipment in and see it in the living room.

I've got a question hopefully someone can help me out. The LEDS that came with the tank are supposed to be equal to 75w T5HO do you think these could support a Squamosa, or Derasa clam? or do those really need halide lighting?

I would think that even if they did support a clam, it still wouldn't be wise to put one in such a small environment. He'll be sucking calcium out of the water like there's no tomorrow, and eventually get pretty large for that tank anyway.

TANK UPDATE - Got rock/ sand in the tank I have always had a hard time aquascaping but this time I put in my rock and it looked perfect the first try. Alot of the rock is already fully cured and has alot of coralline algae i think thats why my cycle flew by about 17 days or so tested my water and decided to pick up a few snails and hermits. A few days after the sand and rocks were cleaned up I tested again and went out and got a pair of clowns. So far so good both eating like pigs.

Looking really good. I just bought the same one. How did you like the LED's and are you planning on running a skimmer?

used to have that tank, mine came smashed too. I wonder how many they have to replace. Seems like they need to do a better packing job, or try acrylic

Thanks EddieC the tank is great. The LEDS could be better I really wish they have seperate plugs and had two switches that controlled the blues and whites. but still for my coral list they'll be great.

Tank Update so this is the one month anniversary of my tank.
I know I might get jumped on for doing this but I added a yellow watchmen gobie, but this is the last fish so no one have a heart attack. So far so good the clown keep to themselves and the gobies got a nice cave hes claimed.
So far this is the stock list
Two false perculas
yellow watchmen gobie
4 turbo snails
3 blue legged hermits.

I plan on adding
a cleaner shrimp
Pistol shimp
lots of zoas, mushrooms, and gsp

call me boring but im going for simple and overgrown.

I did notice that and I spoke with my father in-law who happens to be an electrician and hopefully we can modify that. I should have a better idea when mine arrives. I was thinking of putting 2 platinum clowns and a goby as well. You should be fine IMO since you mention you do weekly water changes.

I did get the nano skimmer at the last minute without any research so hopefully its not garbage :)

BTW nice pic of the goby, looks like hes guarding the tank. Lol

I mean a skimmer couldnt hurt but with the weeky water changes this is the cleanest Ive ever had a tank look. I know its only a month in but Believe it or not I had a pretty good diatom bloom during my cycle. 4 turbo snails and three hertmits later, gone and they"ve keep it very tidy.
The sand bed has really tanken off too over the past few days you can see it getting more and more established but the top is white as snow.
The gobies got alot of personality hes always patrolling his network of caves and branch rock I want to get some blue shrooms to put around his hole so he really pops.

What kinda gobie you thinking about Eddie? I asked my LFS to order a neon gobie for me I went we a saw the yellow watchmen and thought what the heck, I go back a week later and he has a pair of neons... haha But im enjoying the watchman.

Im thinking of Warpaint clown goby or the Panda goby, I just haven't figure out which one yet. That would of been nice to have a pair of neons but then again you don't want to have that many fish in a nano.

How many lbs of live rock did you use?
When are you planning on adding some softies?

Yeah I would have just gotten one.
I only got seven pounds I wanted to have room for large coral rocks.
Im planning on doing a big live aquaria order and getting like 4 or 5 nice softie rocks when I get a paycheck that I can afford to spend probably in a week or two.
