CADlights 39g Pro build thread

That's good news.

Has Eddie mentioned if he's going to drop that stock fuge light? Mine showed signs of rust within 72 hours of tank operation.

Speaking of the tank, things are really moving right along. I should have sand in place this weekend, plus the marco dry rock and some select Dr.s F&S nano rock as seed.

One thing I did notice since I kicked on the pumps is that I do have a microbubble issue to take care of. A little attention to the sump setup should solve that.

That annoying leak in the return line did turn out to be from the small PVC piece that attaches to the bulkhead. A little bit of AquaMend solved that easily.

Hey Art,

Any word if these instructions are going to be included in the new shipment of tanks that they're building right now for the beginning of March?

Eddie says that there are going to be official CADlights assembly instructions in future shipments.

On one hand, that's too late for most of us here. On the other hand, he used our thread to understand where the owners were having problems.

The 39G Signatures and Professionals are both currently back ordered, we are bulding them now and they will be available for Pre-orders next month on the 25th. The shipping date is March 25th. the price may go up a slight because of some of the new features but for all Pre-orders the price will remain the same.

Here are some of the new features that will be offered with the Pro after they are built and back in stock:

Here are some of the new features that will be offered with the Pro after they are built and back in stock:

*corrosion resistant refugium light
*12G Custom made Cell-Cast acrylic sump
*Black color HQI, LEDHO, T5HO light strip.
*plumbing is the same but we are looking into the Hofer style that the ppl are mentioning on your thread. we'll test them both to see which is better and safer.
*DETAILED instructions on the cabinet, tank and equipment.
*a different return pump

He said that he will be offering the new fuge light at a discount to current 39G owners.

Also a new support forum on the CADlights site for registered owners (so go register!)

Very, very good moves. Nice about the black light fixture. I'd actually briefly pondered the idea of painting mine black, but decided it looked just fine as is. The acrylic sump seems like a nice enhancement also.

I'm a lot happier about the Hofer mod than I was at first. I've not touched it since day one, but the drain is a lot quieter than it was initially. Last night, I couldn't hear the tank at all over the sound of a couple of hamburgers sizzling on the kitchen grill, one room away. :)

I got the Vortech MP20 installed yesterday. I've not had time to tweak it yet, but that thing is pretty impressive. I was very surprised to see how quiet it is, as I'd seen comments to the contrary. I can just barely hear it when it ramps up to full speed.

FedEx just delivered my seed rock a few minutes ago, but I'm stuck at work for the next couple of hours. Can't wait to get home and actually get some life in that tank!

Hey CC, do you feel the MP20 is the only water movement you'll need in the tank, other than the return? That was my plan, I already have the MP20...
Do you know if Eddie was going to give the new Pro orders the option of buying the Euro-reef skimmer, or if that simmer wil even fot the newly designed sump? I don't want to order the euro-reef now out of fear it wont work when I order my set up.

It's too soon to tell about the MP20. I'll have a much better idea in a week or so, once I have all the sand and rock placed. I've got 80lbs of CaribSea (semi) live sand enroute, but it's been delayed due to the midwest ice storms, so I'll not get it into the tank this weekend. My gut feeling is that the MP20 will be just fine, although I don't think an MP40 would be overkill. Two pumps, however, would probably create one huge whirlpool in a tank this size.

I can't imagine that the EuroReef wouldn't fit in the new sump. The basic constraint is height, and that's not going to change. I think you're safe to order.

Good point on the skimmer fit question. Hopefully Eddie left that skimmer section the same size so that the euro-reef is still plug-and-play.

I am also interested in how the MP20 works out. That may be a (distant) future upgrade.

I PM'd the moderators twice on the relocation of this thread to DIY.

The first time asking it be put back in Nanos because it was not a DIY thread. No response.

The second time suggesting that it be moved to General Discussion, where the other AIOs are. And I mentioned that CADlights asked me why the thread was moved to an unrelated forum. No response.

So I guess we just have to live with it. CADlights website will point to the right place to get the newbies in track.

Art...Beerguy seems to be very active in the forums I usually see him moderate...I wonder if we asked the guys from the nano section..?

lol...there's no way we'd get banned for making a request...well, as long as it was done without being a jerk.

Hey ArtC...I've been talking with the nano mods about the thread...I think they got mixed up cuz they think you don't want the thread back in the nano section....I've been exchanging pms with MalHavoc....I told him you'd send him out a PM...

Mom and baby are out of town visiting friends, so I had all day Saturday to work on the aquarium stuff. Unfortunately FedEx didn't cooperate by getting my live sand delivered until very late in the evening, and even then it was only half of the order. Looks like I'll have to wait several more days before getting the remainder of the sand.

I did at least move the marco rocks into the tank and work out a preliminary aquascape that I think will work well. The rocks look better in the tank than they did in the garage. I'd recommend them for anyone wanting to go the dry rock route. I'd ordered 50lbs, but that turned out to be much too much. I'm guessing I used around 30lbs or so, plus the 16lbs of seed rock I got from LiveAquaria, and I'm thinking that once the sand base is in, I'll need to remove some of the rock.

The EuroReef skimmer is working very well. My tank parameters are changing fast, and the skimmer is breaking in, so I have to keep close tabs on the adjustment. Still, it's easily tweaked, and it's clearly a good performer.

I'd give a definite thumbs up to that Hydor ETH heater. It's performing just as advertised - holding temps to a tolerance of around .5 deg. My only concern is the hassle of pulling it from the return line for internal cleaning when needed.

Several people have asked about the Vortech MP20. I really won't have valid imput on the performance until I have the sand bed in place, and the aquascape finalized. My first impressions are very positive, though. I've pretty much decided to keep this a softie/LPS tank, and I think the MP20 can easily handle the circulation needed.

More later. I'm going to drink some morning coffee and just sit and stare at the tank for a while. It's actually all coming together at long last.

So I just skimmed through and saw that CAD is comming out with detailed directions? Do you have any idea when this will be? I'm a huge newb when it comes to all of this because this is my first time doing any plumbing. Couldn't stand not having a sump though so I figured I'd have to start somewhere : /....

Alright so I'm a bit confused, my return pump seems completely different than the one you have and the flow is 500gph

CADlights has been monitoring this thread to understand what new or improved features the owners want. As a result, there have been a number of changes in the accessory equipment.

Eddie said the the return pump was being changed. I haven't seen the new pump yet, but I guess you have it!
