CADlights 39g Pro build thread

So I just skimmed through and saw that CAD is comming out with detailed directions? Do you have any idea when this will be? I'm a huge newb when it comes to all of this because this is my first time doing any plumbing. Couldn't stand not having a sump though so I figured I'd have to start somewhere : /....

I believe the instructions will be included in the next batch of tanks, due for delivery in March. I'm sure the instructions will also be posted on the CADlights website when they are ready.

I'll try to get a review copy so we can help with those. Sometimes it's hard to write instructions for something you can do in your sleep - like us driving a car or Eddie assembling a 39G.:)

I got my tank back in June though, but too much was going on and I only am working on it now : O... Anyway this thread has been amazing for help, but I was just frustrated because I suck at plumbing lol

ive had mine up for about 2 weeks. The Solaris i-5 fixture i have fits perfectly! What could i sell the cadlights fixture for? also i have the vortech mp40 and its perfect for this tank. great flexability for my mixed sps reef. i also have the tunze 9010 skimmer i just installed 2 days ago hasnt broken in yet but so far its awesome

Just thought I'd check in with an update on the tank progress here. It's coming along nicely.

I guess I've gone a different route with this tank than most. The biggest difference is probably my decision to go with a 6" DSB in the display tank. It's funny, but my biggest concern with this was cosmetic... how would it look? Now that it's in place, I actually like it a lot. It changes the visual impact of the tank... more 'widescreen-like'. FYI, if anybody's estimating sand requirements, I needed a good 20lbs per inch of bed. The LS is mostly Caribsea Ocean Direct with a top layer of the slightly courser AragAlive. To help it along, I added a detritivore kit from Inland Aquatics.

Another difference would be the addition of an HOB display refugium. I think that'll work out well, also. I've got a bed of mud covered with a layer of sand, some small LR pieces, and a refugium flora kit, also from Inland Aquatics. It's a really nice assortment of macroalgae.

I've got a custom cleanup crew in the works from reefcleaners, but there's really not much for them to clean yet. I'll need to add food for the little buggers.

Still too soon for much in the way of fish or corals. Long term, I'll be adding a pair of clowns and host anemone for sure. A goby and/or firefish would be really nice, too, but I've not gotten around to constucting any kind of tank cover yet. Until I do, jumpers are out.

I really wanted to get some sort of real critters in the tank after all these months, though, so I ordered a pair of blood red fire shrimp from Divers Den, which should be delivered in a few hours. I guess today qualifies as Day 1 as a functioning aquarium.

Itsdarro, do you run the MP40 full blast? I've got the MP20, and after experimenting for a while, I've found that lagoon mode actually seems to work better for me than reef crest. I'd wondered about getting the 40 upgrade kit down the road, but right now it seems like overkill.

I run the MP40 on reef crest at about 65-70% a little higher than mid tank on the left side if your looking at the tank. I have a mixed reef with mostly sps on the top layers of the rocks. Oh yea and the big thing is at the moment im BB so no sandstorms :]. I dont think i would be able to run these setting with a 6in DSB. But to be honest i do have sand that made it into the tank and its staying put on the bottom from where it landed when i setup the tank. I think the flexibility of the mp40 is worth it since you can always turn it down but then again you can always upgrade your mp20.

So far im loving this tank im just having some issues with my tunze 9015 skimmer, tunze should be sending me in the 'fix' within the next week or two though

edit : on my previous post i noted that i put that i have a 9010 what i meant to put was that i have the 9015

That's a lot of sand CC....lol. Any pics?

I'm pretty dismal with our digital camera, but I should be able to come up with something to give the general idea at least.

The sig other's out with the camera atm, getting baby pics at a friends. I'll give it a try when she gets back.

Hey, she forgot the camera! :)

Anyway, here's a quick shot. Sorry for the quality. I had to drop it under 50k file size, and my editing software kind of screwed it up.

Just curious as to what kind of evaporation rate you're all seeing. I'm looking at much less than I expected - maybe a half gallon a day, max, which easily managable. I'll set up some sort of ATO system eventually, but there's certainly no immediate need. Tank top is eggcrate covered, lighting cycle atm is 12hr T5, 3hr MH. I've not bothered running the stock fan. Room temp is 68 and humidity around 60%

Hi all. Thanks ArtC for starting this thread and thanks lemec for pointing me towards it. I've been researching AIO tanks for a bit now and decided to go the "Pro" route. I placed my order this week and am looking at a March/April delivery. It looks like all of you have worked out most of the "kinks" with your suggestions and comments and it looks like I'll be the beneficiary. I may even get some assembly instructions! I'm relatively new at this and haven't quite decided what to do in the fuge. Probably start somewhat stock and see how it goes. I did order an ACJR with temp and pH and was planning on two additional Tunze 6025's. Any thoughts or comments are welcome. I've got lots of time to think before it arrives and I'm not sure if that's good or not. What's everyone with the new fuge doing for a heater? I think we'll need some heat up here in the frozen tundra of MN.

I am using the glass top, run the fan over the overflow, keep my tank at 80 to 81, and the house at about 70. I am probably in the neighborhood of 1/2 gallon a day as well. Maybe a little less. 2.5 gallons lasts me 5 or 6 days.

I don't even use the fan. But then again I have a LED unit for lighting. I only 1/4 gallon a day most and I run my tank at 79-80

Running with no top (no jumping fish yet) and no cooling fan, and closer to a gallon a day in evap.

Using the CADlights ATO.

Think before, but spend afterwards!

On page 8 of this thread is the heater I'm using. I have the old sump. I'd have put the heater in the overflow, but I already had a DSB there.

Unless you are FOWLR, you'll want some extra water motion. The return pump flow isn't enough overall flow, it's a jet, and you can't point the lockline down (or you'll get a siphon when the power goes out!)

I had mentioned that I was planning on the two Tunze 6025's. Don't you think that will be enough motion for sps? I was also thinking of mod to increase flow and set them pointing at each other to get some random motion. What think you?

I am running open top atm but it will be eggcrate soon (carpenter's wrasses are jumpers!). MH is on 8hrs/day and T5s are 10hrs/day. I have a ACJr. and a 1/15 JBJ chiller. I maintain my temp at ~76.5. I have about 1/3 to 1/2 gallon of evap per day (at the most).

Also, the new Euro-Reef NS 3.0-2P skimmer is very very nice. It took a couple of days to get it tuned out, but now it is skimming like a champ! It is pulling out some nastiness that I NeVeR got with the old skimmer.

I ordered my Elos test kits (I know, shame on me for not having them already) and a 2-part starter kit from BRS so my tank should be settling in for the long haul shortly.

For flow, I have 2 K1's but those definitely need to be upped to 2xK2 or maybe even 1xK2 and 1xK3. Thoughts on that, anyone?

I looove my vortech mp40 for flow in this tank. I also just ordered the euroreef skimmer to replace my tunze 9015. What level do you keep you sump to get effective skimming with your euroreef skimmer? Also don't go with eggcrate get a door screen kit and bird netting from home depot. It's much cleaner looking and doesn't block nearly as much light. I have the bookmark on my laptop I'll but there is a great thread on here somewhere on how to do it.

Sorry, I meant you need more than just the return pump.

I have one Tunze 6055, and might get another more because I have a lot of rock and it's difficult to get flow everywhere using just one powerhead.
