CADlights 39g Pro build thread

Is there an extra cord for the moonlights that you plug in next to the switches on the fixture for the other lights? Because it looks like something is supposed to be plugged in there, but I don't have any other cords?

3V power transformer block should have been included in your shipment. Yes, I said 3V.

I was wrong about there being a switch on that power supply.

I just ordered a 39 Pro with the Cherry Stand directly from CADLights. I was thinking of re-working the sump to put a Bubble King Mini 160 in as I like big time skimming my tank for keeping SPS.

Any ideas on how to re-work the sump? I think I could lose the refugium if I had to.

Also, do you think one vortech on the adjustable wavemaker would be enough flow?

I've got an aquasurf and two Tunze 6100 controllable streams but they seem like they would be Huge overkill for such a small tank.

I run a vortech ( the biggest one) and it is perfect for my cadlights pro. I keep it at about 75%-60%

Is your sump the acrylic or glass one? I think the new sumps are acrylic and I'm not sure how you would mod that one.

I am actually about to mod mine tomorrow and take out the baffles on the right side so I can fit the zeovit reactor.

As far as flow, I have a Vortech MP20 and 2x Koralia 2 and I am very happy. That allows me to direct the koralia's to low flow areas and the varying flow from the vortech keeps everything happy.

I have no clue what kind of sump comes with it since I haven't received it yet. I'm really looking forward to the smaller tank as I can focus on just the best of the best of corals since there isn't so much space to fill up. Plus maintenance and everything will be easier.

It's kind of funny that just selling my protein skimmer from my old setup was enough to buy this whole system.

I'm thinking of having a custom sump made for me with the skimmer compartment between two baffles to keep the water height constant.

No hurry as the live rock will take quite some time to be ready.

And the modified sump setup:

I like the new sump setup. I'm thinking of doing something similar but stacking a fuge on top of it somehow. I may have to put in a request for Melev to design one if he will do it. He has some pretty creative sump designs.

Thanks. I was forced to remove the 2nd baffle to that the zeovit reactor would fit. Thank goodness that I didn't break the tank!

I also removed the doors. The hinges were rusted to hell and none of the screws wanted to come out anymore. I am doing a magnetic held single pane door painted either deep blue or deep red.

I just received my CAD39 Pro today and noticed the fan on the light fixture is pretty loud. Is this normal or do I have a defective fan unit?

Hi All! New to this thread and looking forward to getting my new 39 pro system. Re: the loud fans, I'll have to wait and see. I have a current sunpod on my 90 and have the standard JBJ HQI lighting on my 28gl and both have fans which have always been somewhat louder than I would like. If it sounds as loud as a restroom fan then you may have a bearing or balance problem. I should be receiving my 39 pro tomorrow and I will checking the sound for sure. All the fans I've experienced have had a slight hum to them from the air draw. You may also check to make sure the fan isn't running in reverse. The fans should be pulling air up and out and not be pushing air down from the top and out the sides.

this great thread just ends?! how can this be?

I set up my new 39g pro recently, putting a DSB in the refugium. I feel like I haven't seen anyone else using a DSB there, but I wasn't sure if that was because they were using that area for extra equipment (zeolite reactor, phosban reactor, etc.). I was a little concerned with the small-ish surface area and the fact that I understand that DSBs are less useful toward edges(? i think i read this on wetwebmedia.com, but there's so much information there that I can't remember).

Also, I've put this in my bedroom, and it is still rather loud at night. I'm using the stock durso drain with a piece of airline tubing in it, which has mostly silenced the gurgling. i then put a piece of foam at the overflow to cut out most of the "waterfall." however, i'm still getting a fair amount of sound from the drain's outlet and from the stock return pump. i figure the return pump is what it is, but what about the drain outlet? my thought has been to get a piece of PVC and stick it on the end of the tube to act like a "Y splitter" for the water to kind of diffuse the current (and thus cut the sound). Has anyone else had success with this? other suggestions?

I"m not sure whta happened to everyone here...ArtC hasn't been on here for a while, reeftivo has his tank in the nano forum. I am finally expecting my tank next week...I know some of these guys have got the sounds figured out, hopefully they have this one subscribed and will see the activity.

To cut sound down I actually changed out my return pump to a mag 3 or 4 i cant remember. But since my vortech was providing the flow i didnt need a monster return pump

ya, i figured that was the best way to cut the pump noise -- just switch it out for a smaller one! i really want a vortech, but i just can't justify the money right now. i guess i have some time before i'd actually have to buy it, being as that i'm still early in my cycle. but, still. that, along with every other $200+ piece of equipment, starts to add up very very quickly.

have you all found that the heater is a necessary addition to the tank? I'm not using one, currently, and my tank hasn't dipped below 79 (stays between 79 and 82 so far) -- but, it's still warm here, so that might change. anyway, i was just curious as to what others' experiences had been.

I didn't when I had the old pump wich actually put out a ton of heat. But now with my ac on during the summer I keep one on a controller just for peice of mind. I would hat to loose my hole tank due to not having a 20$ heater.

Changing the return pump also complety stopped the gurgle from the standpipe as well as the waterfall sound.

You can use a maxijet or korilia for now or just save up for a mp10 vortch which is still expensive but less than the others. They are totally with it.

Is it just me, or does the skimer pump come off of the skimmer very easily? I was going to glue it, but then realized to change the pump i'd have to change the skimmer's inside elbow too? Sorry for being a noob. I can't get the skimer in the sump without the pump falling off :(
