Calcuim Reactor fine tuning

update......

Cal=375(uunchanged)
Alk-=4.3meq/L(down .2 from yesterday)
Ph=8.3(unchanged)

i just upped my bubble rate to 70 bpm from 60 bpm to try and keep the Alk from falling more.

That seems very steady, I think normally you wouldn't even notice the changes in the alk - unless you normally test everyday.

well right now till i am testing every day.i will slow my testing down once i see stability.i know im real close to being dialed in.

Wait until you change your water :D. My numbers are very stable until I change my water, which I do once or twice a week. I just let it settle in now. My Alk is still a little on the high side but I'll give it another few days before taking action. I had the skimmer flood, changed out the refuge, etc and all changed my parameters. So I figure tomorrow I'll start checking and then if I need to turn it down becuase of the alk I will.

Oh - I forgot to ask you about the other flange for the reactor. I wanted to get the other system up and running for the 75g - I keep moving everything into the 65 - I have nothing left in the 75 - except for Larry but he does take up the whole tank - LOL.

Remember this is the one that was put on upside down. So to fix it we were going to put the gasket on the top plate. The bottom is glued in and is completely smooth, so I we have to reverse it. You should have the top flange and also the gasket for it. I have all the rest to put it together except those.

Just tagging along - have just set up my Deltec PF501 calcium reactor which is running through an aqua medic PH computer set at a ph of 6.5 with a hysteresis of 0.5 - early days yet. I stumbled across this post, makes interesting reading and some great links as well. My reactor has been running for 2 days now so its very early on.

good luck dialing in your reactor.i am still learning but like you said some good reading and links here.i did read the link on this page earlier.it opened my eyes as to what is really going on inside the reactor.

Well I thought I'd give everyone an update. The reactor has been on for a little over two weeks. It has settled in to the following parameters:
Cal = 380
Alk = 5.25
pH = 8.1

I now need to get my alk down a bit so tomorrow I'll lower my bubble rate by 5 it's at 40 now.

Carol and Chris, have you thought about using a supplement to raise you calcium over 400 and see if the reactor will keep it there?

yeah i have,but really 370 isnt bad.everything is doing great and the levels are not going down,so i think my demand is being met.

I might try it, I would like to get to 400 - 425 and maintain that level. I've always done weekly water changes and have had good results so I'm keeping with it, but of course that lowers my calcium and alk.

I haven't the calcium or alk since I got the reactor- would that be better. Hey - I'm new and don't know these things :D.

yep, I stiil buff my make up water.

Carol, keep your bubble rate the same and let more effluent into your system this should belance out your ALK and CA
