Calibrating a TDS Meter

I'm having a 6 month battle with cyanobacteria and suspect the quality of my RO/DI water. My TDS reads 0 at the output but the more water changes I do, it seems the red slime gets worse.
MY in-line TDS meter says it can be re-calibrated with a NaCl calibration fluid. Has anyone done this?????

Yes, you should calibrate your TDS meter every so often. Sometimes that red slime can be a pita! Even with a 0 tds reading the red slime can still be present. I have 0 TDS coming from my RO system and I still get algae blooms every now and then. I am going to test for silicate and phosphate next. It might be possible to have those in the water while still getting a 0 tds reading.

LifeAquatic, thanks for your reply. Do you know how to do it? I understand it's done with a NaCl solution. Wheere dooy get the solution & what value is the TDS reading adjusted to when submerged in the solution? Jim

Shifty, thanks & I'll contact BRS to find out when it will be stocked. Have you used this fluid & if so what is the calibrated value to be adjusted too. I'm guessing the sensors are placed into the fluid and the unit should read a 'xx' reading. What is this value? Thanks, Jim

i have the same stuff and use it about every 6 months when I change out my filters.

what you do is dip the probe in the fluid and your TDS meter should read 342ppm if not just adjust it to 342

Shifty, thanks. When you said the calibration value, I then realized whhy the fluid is titled 'TDS 342'. It takes me awhile............ Jim
