Calling all candy/swissguard/and other basslet keepers

I'd really appreciate some help. I have two candy basslets in their own aquarium. The smaller of the two feeds like a pig. The other fed well initially, then stopped eating for a bit, then started again.

It has now stopped eating again, and has been like this for a week. I purchased new frozen mysis last time and it seemed to like them and start eating again. I'm going to try that again. Apart from garlic and live shrimp, was else can I do to try and get it feeding?

Has anyone else with a basslet noticed this behaviour? It is as bright and active as ever. It comes out at feeding time all excited. It doesn't seem to have lost weight.

It has a single spot on it's dorsal fin. I'm to scared to FW dip and I want to do that only as a last resort.

Any advice please?

Correction, there's no spot on the dorsal fin. It's just the markings :)

I've purchased new mysis shrimps. I've also got a bottle of garlic stuff and a multivitamin/feeding stimulant solution. I'll give these a go plus some live river shrimp. Any other thoughts, just in case?

Depending on how much live food (copepods/isopods/mysids) are in your system, it may just not be hungry. One pair of cave basslets I have devours dry pellets one more than the other. The other is always fat. I've got lots of critters for them to eat in the tank so I don't worry about it. One pair of Swissguard only eats live or frozen foods, won't touch pellets.

Long story short, if you are not seeing any signs of malnutrition don't worry about it. The single spot could be anything. Unless you see more I wouldn't worry. Just watch to make sure its not growing/spreading.

Cheers

I hate to say it, but my Candy Basslet stopped eating and within a few days was gone. I hope you can get yours eating again.

Cheers for the replies guys. Really sorry to hear about your loss.

The single spot is just a fin marking. I'm so uber paranoid with these two fish it's funny! It's done this before and started eating again. There's not many pods, mysis, etc already in the system.

I've been feeding it live shrimp the past couple of days. OMG, it's amazing to watch them stalk and strike. They live live food! The smaller still eats frozen, but the bigger will only eat the live shrimp. I'm feeding the shrimp pellets to try and improve nutritional value.

I might have to start growing an enriching live brine shrimps. What do you think to using these as a food source? Just wondering if baby blood shrimps would be good for colour enhancement :)
