Ok, here's another question. How do Tangs like Chaeto?

I harvest tons from my fuge. Will they eat it? Will it save me money on Nori?

Isn't it funny that I've been keeping reefs since 1986, and this is the first time I've ever kept Tangs....?

They will eat some but its not good for the insides as it comes out the same way it goes in .

If you want to save on NORI goto the asian market it is really cheap there.

thats right or if you dont have a asian market near by, check out your grocery store, the use nori to roll shushi. its usually near the fresh seafood.

Well, I added my second (and last) Tang to my system today. I got a nice 4 inch Kole Tang in seemingly excellent health.

I dripped him for 3 hours, then, at 20 minutes before lights out, I added a bunch of food to distractthe other fish, and dropped him in the other side of the tank.

Of course, as soon as the food was gone, the Mimic noticed the new guy and they spent the next 10 minutes tail splapping and taking turns chasing each other around....

The Kole is about 3/4 inch larger than the Mimic, and by lights out it appeared that the new Tang was holding his own and was not taking any more flack from the Mimic, so I have good feelings that they will settle in and co-exist peacefully. I'm not about to tempt fate again, however. Two Tangs is good. I'm not gonna press my luck.

I'll post some pics of the new guy tomorrow

Here are some pics of my new Kole Tang. He is about 4 inches and is one of the more colorful Kole Tangs I've seen. Lots of orange in his tail, dorsal and pectoral fins:

I have an asian market nearby. They do have shelves full of NORI. Is there a particular kind you have been using? My understanding is that most is seasoned and when I asked for unseasoned, they only had a few packages of totally unseasoned seaweed. The unseasoned type is very thick, almost like a linguini. I bought some of that just to be safe, but what I bought, the fish won't go near.

This is kind of like the 'how long does the PVC need to cure' question. I'm sure it's better to let it wait 24 hours, but people have been adding it successfully after 30 minutes, so in the case of PVC, experience seems to win out over theory. I'm guessing that with NORI there may be some mild seasoning in some of the NORI but if people have been using it successfully, I'll go with experience.
