Calling for experts in Maroon clown paring?

Hello,

I had a pair of Maroon clown but the male got killed by other fish. I went out and bought another male for a replacement. Would a male and female maroon clown always pair up? Or do they go through a selection process like we human do? ... she is not my type, or he is not my type so I will beat the crab out of him... kinda thing....

The female is about 3.5" and the male is just a bit smaller. The new one is a male for sure because it came from another pair. I don't want to take any chances just dropping him in if they would kill each other. It would be impossible to rescue the male because the tank is a 300g full of LRs.

any help is greatly appreciated.

use a specimin container or in tank fuge to seperate them fo for a while while the aggresion dies down

If you get a REALLY small one the female won't feel threatened, however it takes a while before they trust each other to spawn.

maroons will fight to the death be carefull luckily they have lots of room to hide in a 300gal

It sounds like there is no such thing as.... love at first site.... for these maroon clowns then:lol: . It doesn't look like there is an easy way to pair them up. I had tried adding a maroon clown in there before ( not sure if it was a male or a female), she would hunted it down and killed it. Even in a 300g with lots of hiding places. She was spending all of her time hunting down the other clown skipping her meals.

Another option is to get the other female from the orignal owner. And then add this new pair to the tank and let the laddies battle it out. But this would be cruel since one of them may die.

Maroons are tough to pair.
I've had a female for a while and she refuses to pair up with a male.
The best results I've seen are when you use a specimen container so the female can see the male, but can't get to it.
But even that is no gaurantee.
best is to buy as a pair, but if you add the pair now w/ your female you'll probably end up w/ one dead, and one badly scarred

no you dont get it the specimin container thing works your female will come up to it and try to attack thru the plastic but it can be done
