I need advise. My cal is 320 PPm mag is 1250 Alk is 2.0 mql. They need to be 440 cal 1300 mag 3.95 alk right? I tryed this Calcutator http://home.comcast.net/~jdieck1/chemcalc.html It says I need to add 200 grams; 7 oz; approx 40 tsp for cal. I am using Dowflake DIY 2 part. And 74.4 grams, approx 15.8 tsp, or 2.6 oz for alk. I thought I needed to add the same of each? Or is that once it gets balanced? What is the best way to dose this? all in one night over a few hours? I need a fast reply becaues it is getting late and I will not have time to do this tomorrow. So, thanks for any help you can offer.

I'm not a pro. Don't add 15 tsp of bs all at once though. I wouldn't add more than a couple a day. It's probably best to do the same with calcium but you can raise it 100ppm a day but it may cause more problems with your alk.

I would do a couple tsp of baking soda a day and match it with the right amount of calcium.

It may take a couple weeks.

No, you do not add the same of each as they are different molecular weights. Ruffly for each 50 ppm Ca++ increase there should be a 1 meq / increase in Alk, if the Alk and Ca++ are balanced to begin with. The calculator will show you want this balance is. However, if you mean add some of one and then some of the other you can do that. See below.

If you have some mag sup add it first, all at once, as you only need 50 ppm. Once this is done then raise the Ca++ 50 ppm over two days, that will get you at 420, then add the Alk and raise it .50 mq/ l day till it reaches 3.50 meq / and leave it. Now monitor if for the next two days and retest, so you can see what your daily demands are for all three. If you want for some reason to have the Ca++ at 440 that is fine, same for Alk @ 3.95. Just raise them accordingly like above.

Now, if you want you could add 50 ppm Ca++ and then raise the Alk .5 meq/ l an hr later, to be safe and then do the same thing the next day. On the next day add more Alk. You should do all of this over 3 days.
