Camera?

Mike i use a 7mp Fuji pinepix point and shoot.it has a macro mode that works fairly nice and a manual mode so you can change the shutter speed and something else(forgot what).either way it only costs around $250.i do like the camera but in auto mode it tends to blue out the pics some,if i knew how to use the manual mode i would.
i really dont need to spend $1000+ to get a camera,there are alot of nice cameras out that will take GREAT shots of yuor tank for under $500.canons and nikons are alway great choices but do cost more in general.what price range do you have in mind?

I use a Sony DSLR-A350 14 mega pixel w/18-70mm lens. Also got the 75 - 300mm lens. I purchased them about a month ago to shoot my son's football games. I love it. I put it on the sports mode which allows you to continuously take picture's then when I play it in a slide show on the computer I can actually watch the fish swimming. Camera body only $699.00 w/18-70mm lens 799.00 the 75 - 300mm lens an addition $249.00. It also allows you to really zoom in and crop the picture's on the computer.

The D60 is also nice. It has very good low ISO resolution. It has a dust removal system that comes in handy if you start changing lenses a lot - which you will if you start taking a lot of close-ups.
If your going to get a kit lens, make sure you get VR.

I have had a D50 with a few lenses for a few years. Works great unless you drop it!

I normally shoot with a Nikon D40x, however, since I can't dunk that into my tank, I just recently purchased an Olympus Stylus 1030 SW Black 10.1 MP 3.6X Zoom Digital Camera...OMG, I friggin LOVE it...that bad boy goes right into the tank, and is able to go 10m down out in the ocean...pretty sweet...and takes nice pics...

Nikon seems to have gained an edge on Canon lately. You really can't go wrong with either one. The cameras are all very comparable. Many pro-am users will tell you that when comparing very similar cameras there is one thing that trumps everything. Simply go to the local camera store and hold all of the options. If you are going to spend that kind of money then you want something that feels good in your hands. You really cannot go wrong with Canon or Nikon so pick the one that is comfortable to you. Believe me, it can make a huge difference.
Also, Nikon and Canon are the two obvious choices, but you should also consider Pentax. C and N will give you a larger selection of accessories in local camera stores, but you will also pay a premium for their stuff. To me the Pentax K200D is a better camera for the $$. I have to order more stuff online, but that really doesn't bother me. Also the Pentax are backwards compatible with most of their lenses so you can pick up some cheap used lenses to play around with.
