Well my bro has had a pair of black back saddle backs for 5years and recently the female jumped the tank. So I am wondering would it still be possible to pair that male back up with a female?
Unless saddle back clowns differ from other clowns the male you have will turn female as it's now the dominant clown. Adding a juvenile will get you a new male if they can get along.
Yeah I wouldnt add a larger clown. The single clown could easily turned into a female by now. Adding a larger clown that is possibly a female will only cause problems, maybe leading to the death of one of the clowns. Find a very small juvenile clown and put it in the tank. The established clown will attempt to pair up with the smaller one. If they get a long and the smaller clown submits to the female they should pair up fine.

Update
I recently bought a pretty small juvi, it still has the yellow face and paddle fins. Once I added the little guy, the older one totally ignored the new juvi. They'd sometimes be together but most of the time they are seperate, and sleep in different locations. Is it because the juvi isn't mature enough to provoke the older clown to turn female or something?
