Can a chocolate starfish bring ick to my aquarium??

yes it can, the parasite could have hitchiked on the starfish, if you added the stores water into your tank
You can intermediate-dip new inverts in a bowl of tank water, sort of like showering-off when you leave a contaminated area, on their way between the acclimation and the destined tank. That at least gives you a certain chance of shedding any hitchhiking parasites coming in the water.
