can a seashell do this?

I woke up this morning to find my sweet lips lying on the sand. Its body was crooked. My tank is about 3 months old, one of the LR i got from my lfs had a seashell attached to it. I only have 5 fish and and all are of the same sizes. I really feel bad about its death because it was my favorite and he was a hard find in my area. I just want to confirm that it was indeed the seashell, i already removed it though.

a seashell? what kind of seashell?

sometimes when fish die, they end up in some strange positions, independent of any possible trauma.

without a positive ID on the "seashell" though, there's no way of even hazarding a guess.

Any sweetlips is not suitable for your tank. They grow to be around two feet if they can be fed, which is most unlikely. Yours most likely starved to death. For more about this species, please read this and do not repurchase this fish for your aquarium. Whoever sold you this fish basically ripped you off as they never survive in normal aquaria.

Thank you!

Now i feel bad for removing the mussel. I actually did a research and found out that indeed sweetlips are really hard to keep. Too bad, i really like this fish because its peaceful and keeps on moving around my tank.

As a juvenile, they will, coupled with the fact that they are pretty. But both of those facts change as they mature.
