Can Anyone Identify this?

All of a sudden after two weeks my yellow corris wrasse has this huge red spot on his left side. Almost lookd like internal bleading. I found an old post from like 2006 but no one had any idea back then.

He is eating.

all parameters are good. Tank is only about 50 days old.

PH had gone up frpm 7.89 to 8.2 last night when I saw my ATO outlet was exiting into some rock rubble in my fuge (between my baffles) so when I moved all the rubble to the bottom of the fuge ther must have been some kalk build up on it. other than that everything had been pretty stable..

I did a little research and apparently chloroquine is pretty hard to find, esp w/o a prescription. Below are two links I found dealing more with Uronema. I personally have absolutely no experience with this disease but the advice given suggests you can also treat Uronema with things like f/w baths, copper, Formalin baths, etc.

Thanks for the info.... I cant see being successful in getting this wrasse out of the tank.

A freshwater dip with a tablespoon of Epsom Salt would be a good place to start up front. It will give the fish some relief. It's important to note that Epsom Salt won't cure anything, it's more for added comfort to aid in healing.

I treat my guys with microlift products. They are natural, I can treat them in the tank without it crashing. I have use artemiss mostly for bacterial. They also make one for parasites. Have you added garlic? I thought I read parasites do not like it and tend to fall off. Good luck

well, I made this trap last night. It has been sitting in there with him all morning. As soon as I went over to the task to get some sea water to defrost the food, he hid. I guess I will need to wait.

If I do get him into the QT tank what is the best treatment? Cupramine?

I do have some LR so i guess I will need to monitor the copper levels...

Also I was planning on doing a fresh water dip before I transfer him to the QT. I guess there is no sort of aclimation just get the RO/DI water to match the temp and place him in? Same question for tranfering him from the FW dip to the QT?

I will monitor him after that to see if that did anything and if not I will go for the copper treatment I guess...

Instead of a f/w bath, I would give him a Formalin bath before he goes into QT. Less stressful that way, just use water from the DT to do it in. And as long as your pH/temp/SG in the QT match the DT then you can just put him straight in without acclimating.

Hopefully you have access to a LFS near you and can get some Formalin. A lot of fish meds have Formalin in them: Quick Cure, Formalin MS. After that I would just observe for a couple of days. If he doesn't look like he's getting any better then either do another Formalin bath or go ahead and treat him with copper. But I would treat with copper in a bare-bottom QT with no rocks. You can use PVC pipe for hiding places.

well, 2 days and he hast gone near the trap. However I did get a chromis to go in there... The Wrasse is looking much better. I have been soaking his food in Zoe.

Hopefully then it's just a scratch/injury that heals on it's own. Honestly, I don't see how you can tell the difference between that and Uronema.

still cant catch him. his original red spot is 80% gone but just above it he has 3 what look like red scratches...

Well I still cant catch him but he is about 90% better. I changes out my carbon last night and rincing out the reactor dumps about 2 -3 quarsts of salt water. The ATO fills that up with fresh resulting in an ever so slight reduction in salinity. about 1.024 Maybe that helped. Anyway I will keep pushing the vitamines and leave the water salinity as it is for now. The only inverts is ny CUC. I will bump it back up for my coral purchases start or when he looks 100% for a few days...

Hello, I know this was a few months ago, but My yellow Wrasee has the exact same spot and I was wondering if your wrasse fully recovered. I dont want to stress out about it now... it seems that it is more than likely an injury....and not the bacterial infection... I trust this LFS over any other and I know they run copper through all thier fish displays (separate coral system). He looks/acts fine, eats when ever I feed. I just would like to see how this turned out.
