Maybe I'm missing something here, But I went to Kent's house for the Skimmer Pump Mod and I know most of the folks who attended were Members of BOTH club's and I think there was 1 or 2 who were NOT members of either club. So I'm a bit confused as to why everyone keep's talking about a joint meeting where members of both clubs can attend?? Is this not already happening?? The same went for one of the meetings that took place @ MS and then finished at a pizza place, again members from BOTH side's attended as well as one of the owner's of MS who followed us to the pizza place. So maybe someone can explain to me why folks are asking to do something that is already being done?? I mean I know I'm NOT the smartest guy around, and I maybe a Redneck Hick from the sticks but I know I'm not blind. My question here is, WHEN did Slash every refuse to let anyone participate in any type of function??

Thanks,
Stupidreefer.

You're right Mike. I'm surprised that folks would'nt rather be spending their time on a witch hunt ridding the world of them.

SLASH was formed because the BoD of SEASL refused to work with or even acknowledge us. Some of those who were complaining the loudest then are some of the same ones complaining now but the funny thing is that they are complaining that we are not willing to work with the very same club that they were complaining about then.

Our members are free to attend any event that they wish, anytime that they wish and anywhere that they wish without the written consent or recommendation of the SLASH BoD and without fear of retribution. I can't speak for SEASL.

SEASL is free to post in their forum about their events until Hell freezes over. They can advertise their functions until their fingers are worn to the bone. They can and do invite everyone to come to each and every one of their functions. If people don't attend their functions I can assure you that it is NOT because the BoD of SLASH tells them that they either can not or should not go.

We are all adults here who are free to do as we please. Last time I looked there were laws guaranteeing freedom to all of us. These laws also include the right to be or not to be a member of any club we wish.

I don't wish to be a member of SEASL again. Been there, done that and had enough but I do have the desire to be a member of a club. It seems to me that some are trying to tell me that if I want to be a memebr of a club that I have but one choice. I don't think so.

Some people are members of two clubs. I would suspect that it was their choice to join and not because they were forced to do so. I can only guess that there was some reason why they decided to join the second club.

Trying to force two clubs to share events serves no purpose when the members of each are free to attend any or all of the functions of any club. The BoD of each club serves no other purpose than to conduct the business of the club. It is not their purpose to forge relationships with competing clubs and make no mistake about it, SEASL is a competing club.

The naysayers can call it anything they like as they always do. Whether they call it hatred, hard feelings or simply bullheadedness doesn't really matter because in my mind it is none of the above ... it is simply that I am comfortable with where I am and in the end, that is what matters most to me. Whether it be due to my personality or some other factor I did NOT nor will I ever feel comfortable with SEASL. I've heard the same from others so there are at least a few of us who feel the same. Those of us who feel this way are entitled to a club where we do feel comfortable and will not be denied it. Those who are comfortable with SEASL have every right to be a member and it should not be attempted to force them to be members of and/or attend the functions of SLASH and vice-versa. Those who like both clubs have every right to be members of both clubs.

There is no need to have a poll, show of hands or anything else to see if the membership of SLASH wants to attend any event no matter which club may be hosting it. There is no need to host a "joint event". EVERY event can be a "joint event" if someone cares to make it so. All anyone has to do is attend any event that they wish. That is simple enough for me to see but I guess it's because I have a simple mind.

This is the petty kind of stuff that children do and that we, their parents, try to teach them not to do. I have to be like you and do as you do or I'm not worthy? Sorry then, I'm not worthy.

I choose to attend SLASH events and, like everyone else, I am free to make that decision. I won't be coerced into doing something that I have no desire to do and it is my sincere hope that no one else will be either.

Here is the responce I recieved in a PM to this Question when I posted it in SEALS

Why do you feel the need to respond to me in a PM?? I posted in a thread where you can reply back to me. I will read the replies with in the thread.

And everything you stated is already happening. The "resources of the two clubs" that you speak of are all of us the "MEMBERS" not just the BOD's. And what would make you think that there are "LEADERS" with in either one of the clubs?? Exactly what is a "LEADER", is that someone who is better in the hobby than the rest of us?? I don't need nor do I want a "LEADER", I joined in this looking for FRIENDS. Other who have been their done that, and can offer their ideas and opinions. That is what I consider a club to be. Yes there are BOD to help with organizing events and to take the donations and properly use them for those events. But that does not mean that they LEAD anything. BOD's in Slash take votes on every issue and we all ( including the BOD) make the decisions, They don't LEAD us anywhere. If Slash wished to sponsor an event that SEALS was throwing and everyone or those who choose to did so then by all means lets do it. The point is not everyone might want to take part in such. This collaboration you speak of is already happening and as I stated members of both have attended several meetings and outings (which we call pizza night). So wants again I find myself still asking what is the purpose of tryin' to join the two together??

Maybe I missed something, but did something happen that prompted all these threads in the past couple days?

As far as I'm concerned having two clubs means more forums to read (and more time on RC) and more events to choose from - both of which are good.

If STL has the hobbyists to support it then the more clubs the merrier.

I belong only to SLASH because I could pay my fees online (I'm too lazy to write a check and mail it).

short story:

1. I started a thread to prove a point that everyone surfs both forums so people should stop posting identical threads in seasl and slash

2. somewhere in the thread the idea came out that we should only have one forum (which isnt what the point of the thread was, it was that you shoudl only post your thread in one of the forums)

3. from the idea of merging forums it was also brought up that the clubs should combine

4. the idea of combining clubs excited those who remember why the second club was formed in the first place

5. this brought back memories and tempers rose

6. you asked this question at 1:20 PM on January 5th, 2007

Greg, the idea of a co-mingled meeting is so repulsive to you it has lead to the resignation of 2 officers and your rantings of hate above.

I certainly think SLASH needs to work on its people skills, as the organization is made up of its members, and when you **** enough of them off, SLASH will end.

Hope it doesnt come to that, but your tirad above doesnt fill me with hope

You have it partially right, lest you forget the thread about having combined events.

Regardless of what happens, it is like Greg said above... You can attend one or both clubs events and will always be free to do so.

No one has been prevented from attending either clubs functions. Some people were just looking for something more official sanctioning a combined event. No so much a push to recombine forums or clubs, although that was mentioned.

Something like the BBQ mentioned could produce a pretty big turn out and a whole bunch of beer and fun.

I just thought it would have been a great time to showcase SLASH for the SEASL people and pick up membership. They have an opinion of those that split off, and it would have been wonderful to show them SLASH was a viable, open, friendly place.

Not going to happen now I guess. Another opportunity wasted to make a good impression to those that didnt know the people who made up the club.

Sort of my thinking too Clark, though we arrived at that idea by different means possibly.

EVERY SLASH event is a showcase of the club.

We have ALWAYS invited ANYONE who wishes to attend... BAR NONE! That is what has been repeatedly stated by numerous people numerous times.

Just thought it might actualy draw more people if we actually sent out (through a thread) an official invite to SEASL members... make them feel welcomed in essence.

I for one am nervous about meeting strangers, and maybe thought something like that might help others who would be considering attending an event, but if you don't know someo fthe people going, it makes it tough sometimes.

Does this include the invite only super secret pizza nights?

In defense of the super secret pizza night, the only pizza nighs I know of Clark were the pizza nights that were BOD meetings. Usually at 8 or so at someplace close to GWA.

Unless I wasn't invited either!?! LOL

:D :D :D

Explain Clark.

Are you speaking of the get together at Arsenal11s place?

That was a private affair hosted by Arsenal11. He is free to invite anyone and everyone he wishes to invite to his home. I'm sure that you've NEVER done anything like that...right?

If Wal-mart and K-mart open a store together (lets say Walk-mart).. Would that make more people come? No. Why? Because 90% of the people that shop at one shop at the other. I don't recall Wal-mart having a sign posted saying K-Mart shoppers not aloud, and Neither do either one of these clubs, when it comes to Members Doors are open and swings both ways.. It's a free choice if you want to go to a SEASL meeting Go! If you want to go to a SLASH Meeting Go! If you want to go to both, Go! The two clubs are two different clubs, but with 95% of the same people belong to both clubs why are we even having this conversation.

I don’t see any hate above, people just asking why? And maybe a few instigators trying to keep this nonsense going.
