Can Dolomite be used with out a calcium reactor?

The calcium reactor breaks the dolomite down via CO2. Using it alone will do nothing for you. PaulB has dolomite as substrate in his 35 year old reef.

Aquaticman74 hit it right on the money.Yes U do need carbon dioxide to break the dolomite, only then this become benificial to your system. The condition has to be acidic to dissolve it, and calcium reactor is the only place U can achive that.................PEACE

Great :( anyone want to give me a calcium reactor :) ............................

Ok so lets say I go out and get one where do I get the CO2 tank with CO2 in it?
and is this an appropriate grocery list:
Ca Recator w/ pump
regulator w/ selenoid
Ph Monitor
C02 tank
?????

Check the sticky on top to find any dealer close to U to purchase Co2. I think U got everything, U did not mention media. I like mixture of aragonite/ dolomite/ oyster shells, this way I know I would not miss any major and minor elements.:) ..........PEACE

Fishfood, I have a 5lb. tank I don't need if you want it, make me an offer, I probably won't refuse. :)

Probably, it's going to be pricy to ship though. I have to go exchange this one for an empty tank on Wed. because I have to ship an empty tank.

$25 if you wanna pick it up.

Fishfood, if you wanna pick it up, it's yours. If not, I have someone else who will pick it up. Let me know.

I always wondered why my dolomite has always looked the same.

Does anyone know what the minimum pH is for use of dolomite? I run my reactor at a pH of 6.2-6.3 due to the Schuran media needing a lower pH to disolve. Will dolomite stay together at that low of a pH?

Bryan, dolomite are limestone rock harder than schuran media. If U running 6.2 in your reactor I dont see any problem w/ that. They dont break that easy U need a PH lower than 6 if U want'em to dissolve quik. I used 1/2 dolomite, 1./2 aragonite ratio in my reactor which gives me 1350 in mag..............PEACE

Thanks Menard. Next time I am in the city I will need to come and visit your store. I'll bring the Gold card. :)
