Can gigs or mags live in nanos

If you can find a small one of either, it could work. The problem is finding one that's small enough. This is like putting a small tang in a nano -- it's fine with the caveat that it will need to go into a bigger tank.

I think part 2 of that equation is that in a Nano tank it won't take much for parameters to go off so that's something to consider as well.

Many people don't realize how much bioload an anemone ADDs to the equation. If your Nano is very mature with a good biofilter AND the nemmie is very small and you don't feed a lot AND you have good lights and good circulation and good filtration (stable environment) then you could do it.

I had my Gigantea in a 30 g cube for 1 year. I cannot feed it at all because it would just out grow a 30 in a few months.
I you find a 4-ish inches Gig or Mag, it would work if you do not feed it. Remeber a 3 inches Gig would turn into a 7 inches once it get healthy in your tank.
Example: in the picture below are three Gig I got 2.5 to about 4 inches. The egg crates are 1/2 inche square. The smallest is about 2.5 inches in the picture.

Here he is now, 1 month later, (the smallest) at about 7 inches. The crocea in the picture is about 4.5 inches. The Gig we are talking about is the small one in the front. The others I had for years.

The other two can be seen here. One is about 8 inches or so.

Also keep in mind that once happy mags can grow really quickly. Mine has outgrown a 90 gallon tank in only about six months - and I don't target feed it!

thanks guys, ill be waiting for a mag or gig on liveaquaria

Be prepared to wait a long time. I haven't seen a small of either in a long, long time. The ones that come up on DD are sold out before I even have a chance to see it on sale.

IME, Gig does not move around much but Mag is a walker if the condition is not optimal. Both need fairly good water movement, especially Mag. In a small tank, it is not easy to place PH where Mag can't get to easy. Also Mag cannot touch the wall of the aquarium or else, it will most likely climb the wall.

IME, Mag is more difficult to keep than Gig. However, It is harder got get a healthy, one that it will live, Gig than a Mag.

The smaller the better.
What is the dimension of your tank?
For anemone in small tanks, especially Gig of Mag the cube tank is the best. The anemone is center stage and keep away from the wall.
Wait for a tiny one. Size report generally small for the actual size. 6 inches is the max Mag I would put in my 18 inches cube.

I would never suggest anyone put a carpet other than maxis into a nano.
However, I personally just got a little 3 inch gig (I think) that I put into my 5.5 maxi nem garden. I'm religious with tank maintance otherwise I wouldn't risk it either, but I have a 125 gallon that it will eventually move into

this is my anemone QT tank (20LX18HX18W). Most of my new anemones stay in here until I can determine that they are healthy. I have keep my Purple gigantea in here for over 1 year. Currently two of my Gigantea are living in here for the last 3 weeks or so. I got them 9/2/2013. They were in hospital tank for 1 week before moving into here. I immagin I can keep them here for a long time if I don't feed them, but will eventually got grow this tank. My Purple out grew it in 1 year and I moved him before disaster struck.
Here is a FTS right now (this AM) The larger one is about 8 inches, smaller one 6 inches

You should not get a Magnifica. 12 inches is very narrow. Because of this you cannot keep the Magnifica away from the wall of the aquarium. If you really want, you can try to keep a small Gigantea.
If I am you, I would try to keep a H. malu (if you have a sand bed) Malu will do great in a tank that size

I agree. IME, as soon as a Mag can touch the glass, it will try to climb up it.

24X24 minimum. Better if 30X30 or larger. I think for long term Mag tank, the smallest dimention need to be 24 inches. At least 250 W MH (or equivalent in light)

I thought about building a similar tank -- at 24" x 24" cube with a rock column in the very center, mag at the very top and a pair of clowns.

The tank pictured above is a 20X18. It works if you get a small Mag or Gig.
Several years ago I got a thread on my small Mag in this same tank. I keep him there for years.
Picture below. Same tank
