Can I go bare bottom without cooking?

I am considering going barebottom in my 8x2x2 tank. I already have 8 fish, a few corals, and LR, with a thin 1" layer of sugar fine sand - so "cooking" is not an option.

Am I wasting my time trying to go barebottom without "cooking"?

Do you have a nasty algae problem on the LR?
that would probably need cooking.

Are you worried about phosphate leaching or something?

not sure why the rock arbitrarily needs cooking to go into a BB
(then again things move fast around here )

I dont see why you would need to cook the rock. If you want to go bare bottom, go for it!!!

I see no reason to cook your rock if you are having no issues as mentioned.

Incidentally, why the change?
