just looked in the tank, acan was munching on my flametail banded pipe. the acan caught it by the end of the tail. the pipe had been doing well. it looks like a quarter inch of it's tail has been striped off right above the tail fin. the pipe seems ok ,but i don't know for how long.

Hmmm... even when clicked on, that is a very small picture; But I'll take your word for it that it is an Acanthastrea, not another mussid coral.i'll try to post a couple pics later, the pipe didn't make it. acan will close on anything that comes into contact with it. the pipes tail looked like it the scales were melted off. my guess, it 's tail rested on the acan and the acan latched on. the pipe was struggling to get free when i found it. i freed the pipe from the acan and it seemed fine other than the tail being cooked. it was swiming and eating for about a hour or so. it ended up not being able swim and got stuck on the overflow grate
