Can I safely place my rock on the sandbed?

My faux rocks will be in Friday. I would like to know if I can place them directly on my sand bed without getting sand into the pump. Your answer is appreciated.
:D
Thanks

I wouldn't. I think it would be best to at least have them on another rock maybe 4 to 6" over the sand bed.

An other issue to consider is how turbulent the flow will be, and how much it will disturb the sane around it. You'd pretty much have to point the turbelle almost straight up for it to not mess up the sand around it.

The Stream rock provides a 5 degree angle of upturn so the sand shouldn't be churned to much.

I have decided to purchase a shelf rock at my LFS and cut it to size to fit under the rock. They are about 2 inches thick. This should do it.

I think that should work just fine. Maybe check out the pump after a few weeks just to be sure. The main concern I have is from a technical stand point the plastic is a special blend that includes teflon and it would defeat the low friction properties of the impeller well if it gets really scratched up. Probably nothing major but one of the things I thought was cool about Tunze when I started was even the plastics were of a custom spec and very high quality.
