can I upgrade a 9005 with new 9006 pump?

hi there i have a older 9005 skimmer which worked great on previous set up. I recently upgraded to a 45 gal cube 25*25*18. my tank is fairly heavily stocked with sps and has a high bio load with fish plus all the corals. Thought I read a 9005 could handle a 58 gal w high bio load of fish and sps but don't think my 9005 is cutting it anymore. I heard about the new 9006 pumps and am intrigued. will these new pumps fit into the "old" 9005's. will the new pump boost the performance of the skimmer? if not, is there a way to increase its efficiency?

Yes, you could do this but the performance increase will be very small, the 9006 pump is only about 5% stronger than the 9005 pump, it won't make much difference. To really boost the performance you would want the 9010 or 9011 motor and impeller and a 0220.140 cup, this would essentially upgrade the skimmer to a 9010 or 9011.

so the 9011 pump will fit into my 9005 houseing? and you purchase the impeller and motor seperately ?

Yes, the pumps are not yet available seperately, the 9006, 9011, and 9016 just started coming in last week. You would need the 9011.015 motor, 1205.700 drive unit and the 0220.140 cup to fully convert to a 9011, the spare motors and impeller should be available in late April.
