I have a mystery disease that has been killing my fish and have used copper and antibiotics. Most of the other diseases that are left seem to be affected by formalin. I don't have any formalin and neither do my local stores. Therefore I bought some rid ich + which is formaldehyde 4.26% (formalin 11.52%) and zinc-free chloride salt of malachite green. On the directions it says that 5ml of rid ich in 10 gallons of water makes a .05mg/l malachite green and 15mg/l formalin concentration. I know to do a formalin dip, one would go much higher in concentration 170-250mg/l but would the higher malachite green concentration be deadly?
So to get to a "dip" concentration, the formalin would be at let's say 175 and the malachite green would be at .58 mg/l. Would this be deadly for a short term dip?
help pls! I'm tired of losing fish.
