I am trying to find out if it can or not? i got ich about a month ago and it killed 2 of my fish. i was able to save my halfblack angel but not my coral beauty and niger trigger. it didnt seem to effect my chalk bass or my snowflake eel. i thought it was gone but i added a solar wrasse, yellow tank and a blue chin trigger. they were fine for about 3 or 4 days but then i noticed it on the about 5pm on sat. by 10pm sat they were dead. now all that is in the tank is my snowflake and my chalkbass with all my coral. what im trying to find out is if i let the tank sit for 2 months if it will go away without a host or if it can host my coral? im not sure about my chalkbass he does rub on the sand but i dont see any white spots on him. he also doesnt struggle to breathe. should i take him out and the eel also or do you all think they will be ok? like i said the dont act like it bothers them. i really want to get this taken care of but it is going to be extremely hard to catch the snowflake or the chalk. what do you guys think i should do? here is a list of the coral i have.

purple monti
orange cap
green leather
devils hand
mushroom leather
gsp
orange zoo's
peach zoo's
xenia
3 anemone's

please help!!!!

Ick is an obligate fish parasite, as such it can not survive on corals without fish present ;) However, it has cysts that can last several weeks, hence the need for letting the tank sit fishless for at least 6 weeks.

Oh, yeah, the eel and chalkbass will need to come out and should be treated for ick while the tank remains fishless.

ok thanks. i have read that snowflakes are just about immune to ich and some other fish will develop immunities to it also. the eel has never shown signs of having it. i guess the safest thing would be to take him out. thanks again!
