i have been reading all over the net on camera reviews and i feel im stuck between the nikon d80 our the canon rebel xsi. i like the looks and feel of the canon over the nikon but i,ve read that the nikon is an overall better camera. the only real down side i found was no dust control. i dont care about live view, but more on easy of using the menu and settings. ive found the nikon and the canon to have there advantages and disadvantages on that. im not planning to be a pro just want to take some good tank shots and not be looking to upgrade in a year. local prices i have found are $750 for the d80 with 18-135 lens and $799 for the xsi with 18-55 lens any info are help would be great. thanks

Hi
I think you should go with the one that feels better in your hand. You also need to research lens. You do not want to be a pro but given the fact you are a reef keeper you most likely have an addictive personality and in no way will keep the kit lens as your only lens. I am not familiar with the canon as I use the nikon d4ox. I chose the d40x over the canon rebel xti based on the feel in my hand and lens availability. good luck.

X2, and I'm a Nikon guy also. To me the best thought is, if it's not comfortable, you won't carry it with you.

And fancyfish, I do not have an addictive personality.

Ok, I do.

:D

i guess my next questions is, are these 2 good cameras for the price are should i look at something else. i did also look at the olympus 510 as i saw it was rated pretty high for last years models but olympus does not have a great selection of lenses. but like i said before i more than likely will not get many lenses so that may not be a problem. the only lense i may get would be a macro lenses. down the road i may look at others but nothing in the near future. am i setting my self up for disapointment by not going with a canon 40d are nikon d90.

i would stick with the canon or nikon. you cant go wrong with either. again comfort and feel go a long way. if it does not feel good you wont use it. go with your gut

well i went with the nikon d80. it felt nice in my hand and got a good deal on it. now i just need to learn all the settings, and practice so i can take some good shots then invest in a nice macro lens. thanks for all who chimed in.
