Can people get ich?

So.... should I be worried?

depends on who you take home from the bar I suppose.

As greenbean said, bacterial infections are what you need to worry about. Don't look too hard, or you will be scared to touch you tank water :D

Ich can make people sick. When all their fish get ich the human gets sick trying to treat it. Makes em sick trying to catch and relocate an entire tank full of fish so that they don't die during treatment. Causes anxiety, stress, heart ache, heart burn, sleeplessness, loss of income. Lesley

granular infections are the only thing I am aware of that you should worry about, unless you get stung of stuck by a urchin or something with poison.

If a part of our body was submerged long enough could it be a host to ich?

I don;t know, but I seem to meet more and more "ichy" people...maybe there's a coralation. See if you cna get funding to do a study :eek1:

When I was 10 years old I contracted a rare from of Tuberculosis that my doctor hadn't seen in 23 years. They determined after a month or so that I got it from my goldfish when I cleaned my tank with a large gash on my knuckle. Some things can go from fish to people.

Yup, fish tuberculosis, Myobacterium marinum. It's not at all unusual for profesional aquarist to have weakly positive tuberculosis tests as a result of exposure to fish TB. It's also rare to put a group of say 30 or more aquarist in a room and not find one person that has had it.

When I was touring the Aquarium of the Pacific in CA a couple years ago, we came across a large QT tank that said "Keep Hands Out of Tank! Ich Treatment In Progress- This Parasite Will Infect You!"

I think there were just 2 serious aquarists there in the group (my friend and I) and we laughed our butts off....

Interesting article about the herpes virus affecting corals, I wish it said which types for herpes though...

I didn't even read that article past the third sentence. Somthing like, human beings have been killing coral reefs directly and indirectly through global warming for years....

Anything that employs that logic is a load of crap.
