Can someone please update the ETRC Web site

No, I don't think so. I've just been updating it and didn't build the site. My plans were to wipe it and install wordpress to allow content management. I guess, so more then one person (ie. the BODs) can update the site.

Do you know a lot about websites Travis? Cause if you knew how to do it, then it would be much quicker then me doing it. I'm science-trained and not so much computer-trained. So I would have to look a lot of it up.

I though that was what the BOD was for. And if people that is in the club that hold office did what they was supposed to do we wouldn't have this discussion. thats why we pay dues.

Are you freaking kidding me??? The BOD is not being paid by the members to do anything. The Board is there to direct the actions of the club, coordinate meetings and group buys and to make sure and keep people in line... It is up to the membership to elect people that they think would be good to act in that role... I have been in the BOD for the past 3 years and have never heard a statement like this, it shows how truly ignorant you are...

And yes, the club actually paid something over $300 for what is up there right now including a few updates... This was something done without the BOD's approval... But since you guys decided to throw out uninformed blanketing attacks, I am choosing to respond to said accusations...

Please stop

Please stop

Please stop. The club will not exist if this continues. We will tear it apart. Before and after all is and has been said, the club is only people. We don't have much else. What you say/write cannot be taken back.

If anybody knows all the facts, which I doubt, it will not be shared in this format, maybe at a meeting between the club members If it does all come out, and maybe it should, I would rather it not be in front of the whole world.

I have no authority, but please.

The $300 was my fault. If you need someone to blame, blame me.

Please let the remaining BOD discuss how the BOD wants to proceed.

The remaining BOD members are Kim (VP), Janie (Treasurer), and Dana (Secretary). The bylaws say that if a position is vacated, the remaining BOD members have the responsibility to fill the position.

I have tremendous confidence that these folks will work on this and let us know what is being done.

yes i do know. i always did my stuff in dreamweaver. exc. and i never said that the BOD was paid i was referring to everyone paying dues. and didnt have website that was updated. the BOD is just supposed to over see it is done was all i was referring to. sorry if they was any miscommunication.

The BOD is to manage the work and ensure it gets done -- not do it all themselves.

Yep.

Also, I completely agree with Randy. The board is just there to make sure most things keep moving forward...not to be lectured to by members who feel the need to gripe about every little thing they want done, especially not by those who do not want to take on any responsibility themselves.

But I sort of agree with Eddie...we're not exactly having a productive discussion. However, these things have been brewing for a while and sometimes need airing. Now that I've said my part, I'm pretty much done.

OK, can i see a show of hands of people that are willing and able to do a quick update on the website?

personally, i think the home page shouldn't have anything date-specific on it, in case it is a while until its updated again. an updated poster of the upcoming frag swap would be great, but if it can't be done pretty quickly, i'd say just wait on it.

for the home page i would say maybe a brief description of the club, a link for people to contact us for membership information, and maybe a link to RC and "the other one." the site doesn't need to be complicated, it just needs to be informative.

any other suggestions? lets get this going....

As I said above, I'd be willing to update some of the content like photo pages and the like, but not the day-to-day business like updating meeting minutes and meeting dates and locations and the like -- I pretty much stink at keeping up with that.

great, you're hired! thanks scott! :celeb1:

i think the web site is primarily used to get our club out there, to show up in search engines and introduce ourselves to the world. nobody has the time to keep up with the day-to-day club stuff and its typically addressed in RC anyway, so personally i don't think minutes, and meeting announcements need to be on the page. i think it looks better to not have it on there at all than to have it be outdated and wrong.

if anybody else has any ideas about the website, lets hear it. good or bad, lets keep it constructive.

before anybody thinks about stepping out, think about stepping UP. we're all friends, and this is YOUR club...lets all work together to turn the club into what everybody wants it to be.

great, you're hired! thanks scott! :celeb1:
That is fine, but I think we need to defer to Donny on this as well. The setup he was working on that would allow non-programmers to modify the site would be ideal if he still has that in the works. If that is still a possibility, anything I can do would be temporary in nature just to get rid of blank pages and missing images.

It doesn't matter to me. I have all of the website information if somebody else would like to handle it. I could probably work on the website in about a week when I have spring break.

But again, I hate that the website has been delayed so far. I don't want to hold up anything. So let me know if I should send the info on to someone else. I prefer the BOD send me their decision on what I should do.

It doesn't matter to me who does it. if you want to take care of it, that'd be wonderful, it would most definitely be appreciated! is there anyway to just do a quickie and remove anything that makes it look so outdated on the home page? it sounds like Mr. Coral might be interested in being a sponsor for the swap and they want to see the website...i don't want to lose them.

thanks!

Yeah, I just need a list of things that need to be updated. I have no idea what's going on with the club and what needs to be updated.

I have a buddy that might be willing to keep your site updated...if any of the BOD is interested let me know and I will have him contact you...and you all can work out the details....if is our webmaster on http://www.kyreef.com/phpbb/index.php check it out and see if you like what he has done with it.

And I'll just say ........what the heck were you thinking?:)

I had to pick it up to secure a summer position. I could get by without a job and would much rather not have one. However, with more pharmacy students coming in to nashville, and also UT students moving home for the summer, it's becoming harder to find summer internships near my area. I had to start early.

Dana

The problem is not so much that those who have had responsibility for the website - those paid and those who volunteered - have not been capable or willing. It is that most have not had the time or the facilities. We need someone who has nothing to do except work on the website, has a $2000 digital SLR camera for pictures of the member's tank setup, and a computer and internet access that most companies would envy. Then we would have a website that no one would believe -- One we could probably not live up to.

Since that person has not stepped up to the plate, we need the current site to look like it is being maintained and keep up-to-date even if that means it does not have some of the features that most of us would like to have.

I would say if Donny has the time next week to do that, encourage him to do it. (If the site has a page for member's tank setups and we do not have the pictures "“ eliminate that page. And stuff like that!!) If not, we need to have a single page that tells who we are and lists upcoming meetings, so it will look updated, and announces the June 19th 2010 frag swap. Maybe it could have the links to find us on RC and other places.

Eddie

Thanks for the input Eddie...I agree. I know Donny has the best intentions, but it sounds like he is crazy busy.

I actually tossed and turned over this all night last night...i'm working on it. i think this needs to be first priority. we need to start calling sponsors and i'd like to send out an email to past swappers, but the page needs updated before i can do that.

donny, was it you that created the flyers for the swap the last couple years? i thought you did an excellent job. since time is so short, how about if you work on a flyer this year, and i'll figure out something else for the web page? i don't want to take your baby away or anything, but at least until you have time to play with it we can get some sort of update done.

of course, you're under no obligation to the club, and anything you can do is very much appreciated.
