Can we double task the RS232 port?

Is it possible to use the RS232 port to connnect to a pc (through a serial to usb adapter) for configuring the controller and the occasional update when necessary but at all other times use it to just connect to the Profilux View remote faceplate and in the future a SMS modul on my EX unit?

I would like to do this so I can use all 3 of the expansion ports for cards other then a USB card. I plan on running a LAN card, DO card and a PLM4L card or a Humidity/airtemp card.

When the SMS unit is released this will have dual RS232 ports.

Yes you can use a serial to USB connection, they are readily available

I also need to know if it causes any problems to use the serial port on the controller to connect to a pc when doing updates or configurations and when done with that reconnect back to the Profilux?

should not cause issues no, only issue is getting a connection when first setting up, some USB/serial can be finicky in set up
