Hello all, my coralline Aleta is fading in color and going from deep purple to light purple to white in spots -

Tank has been established for 2 yrs And I have never had anything lokeyhis happen .

H20
Salinity 1.023
Nitrates/Amm/nitrities 0
Phosphates 0
Ca 440
Kh 10
And I dont test for mg but dose twice a week (I know that's bad science to dose something you don't have levels on but dot has a kit)
All my coral look great, all opening and growing

Only think I have changed is I have added phsogaurd and I have added 100g worth in my 55 bc my phosphates were naming out about .3

Any ideas?

is your temp swinging at all?

what type of cal are you using? some cal already have mag, so you could be double dosing it

Temp constant at 77 and I use aquavitro calcification
I know it is a calcium based algea but since it isn't photosyn based I would think it still needs waste products to grow - I have a pair on black oc clowns and a watchmen goby-
So I thin k I should pull out some phos gaurs or feed more?

I would check your magnesium levels. Coralline not only uses calcium, but it is a big consumer of magnesium. The more coralline, the more mag. gets consumed. Like coral, coralline needs balanced conditions to grow. Your calcium and alkalinity look to be in check. Your coralline may be telling you that it's time to check the mag.

do you have any small star fish? Asterinas will do that to coraline pretty quick. It happened to me about a year ago, they didn't hurt anything just ate the heck out of the coraline. look for them to

well id ont think it is inverts for 2 reasons -1 it is threw out the tank on mult levels and almost every rock
2 i have a big piece of dragon breath, some type of macro allege, and it normally uber red like fire and now is fading to a soft pink/white on the tips.

i feed like crazy tonight and cut way back on phospho gaurd, i posted on zoa baords and a guy things it may be from the change in phoso levels

could be, I've noticed in the past big swings when changing phosguard media out. My toadstool would close up for a week or better at a time. I always rinsed but figured it was the extreme change. I switched to bio pellets recently so watching closly to params and corals.

Well I think we have found it then - my toadstool is closed up as well, he is a little upset and hasn't came out since media has been in - so I will just got backoff on the gaurd and if the coralline algea dies so be? all my coral looks great, even tho the purple rocks would be missed
