Can you help? Why did my Blasto end up looking like this?

I feed them. =) Don't worry. I've been feeding them regularly. I direct feed them as well. I have some Sechem reef dip. Should I put it in there? Or no?

No, you dip them when you get them/before they ever make it into display. Now you have opened pandora's box. I dont think it is a parasitic issue in your case though, but what do I know?

I agree prophylactic dips are a must if you have an established display. In addition to TMPCP many use flat worm exit dips to protect stonies from acro eating flat worms and montipora from nudibranchs. I have dipped ailing Welsiies with no ill effectbut it didn't help either.

I thought if there was something eating it at night though, it might come out of the rock if I did a dip. This was given to me by someone that couldn't take care of their tank anymore. I wish I would have dipped it. I have dipped my other corals though. Yes, I did make a mistake. Oye.

I've had some of my blasto's receed until there was only the slightest amount of tissue left. I didn't move the specimen, and it would come back to it's former glory in a couple weeks.

not sure could have been a change in flow, I had removed a powerhead. Also I noticed hermits pestering it frequently, stealing food from the blasto polyps. It was about 24" from the PC's I had and I left it in the same location since I changed to T5HO's. I added a koralia 3 to take up the slack flow and they look great once again. I just feed them some PE mysis and hikari brine every week or so and that's it.

I also had them fall off their perch into the sand and they didn't like that. I thought they were gonners. Picked them up, gave them a little current, and they were happy in about two weeks.

The algae on the exposed skeleton leads me to believe it has been a slow demise. Maybe you need to feed a little more, provide a little more light, or alter the flow across the polyps.

These are all shots in the dark since I don't know your tank.

Hope it helps!

Hi,
I feed them mysis and cyclopeez. I feed them 1 per day or every other day. I shred the mysis so it isn't too big. It has been slow. I've tried moving them around in my tank. So far the baby polyps are kind of in the dark and in less flow. I am noticing that they are getting bigger. I hope they make it.

Scythanith, you make a good point. In my experience these corals seem to hate to be moved or adjusted once established and do on occasion recover at least short term, if you leave them alone.. This is one reason to be hesitant about moving them about or taking them out for a dip.
