Can you keep a single purple firefish with a pair of flames

Right now my 29g only has the pair of flame firefish and i love the color on the purple ones. I am aware that you are either supposed to have a pair or one single fish for firefish, but i was just wondering if you could mix species

I have heard no generally because they are the overall same shape/species and your flames may not like another.

But then again I have seen it done before. I would recommend getting a larger purple if you do.

why not look into another small purple fish? like a royal gramma or fridmani dottyback for example

thanks guys. I just love firefish. The two I have right now are very peaceful and are constantly together. the royal gramma is an option, but I had a neon dottyback that was promptly returned to my lfs because of its aggressiveness. Not sure about the fridmani's peacefulness although I thought all dottybacks had relatively the same temperament.
