Hey guys is there any chance that my clownfish eggs will survive if I leave them in my tank and let them hatch in there????

The eggs are currently right next to the anemone and maybe when they hatch they will stay close.... lol first time and was just wondering?:hammer:

Thanks for looking

Your eggs will survive just fine. However, the fry will all be gone within 6-8 hours of hatching. They need nearly microscopic plankton to feed on, and even a 1200 gallon tank doesn't have it. Read some of the breeding threads and you'll learn more than you want to know about rearing rotifers and feeding clownfish fry(first you start by raising phytoplankton to feed the rotifers, then you raise rotifers, then you have to get the rotifers close to the fry - a certain rotifer concentration in the water is necessary or the fry will still starve to death).

Nope, with any normal overflow situation you will lose all of the babies down the overflow. If you had no sump and left them in the tank they would eventually get eaten, if not by the other fish in the tanks, by the parents.

You could remove all fish, remove any flow to the sump or in the tank that could damage the fry, feed the tank rotifers and phyto (to keep the rotifers alive) and keep concentrations right. But at that point you might as well put them in a seperate tank instead of doing all of the other stuff :).

Basically no matter how large your tank is it does not have the proper ability to raise clownfish fry. In the ocean you may get 1-2 survivors out of 500-1000 eggs, thats why they lay such large clutches so often. If you want to raise the clownfish you can go to anyones thread who is currently doing it or just search around a bit.

ok I see, that really helps....Thanks

I will probably wait a few more batches and then set up a breeder system cause I have my cardinals breeding too

You will need to get a small tanks as I have been reading to raise the fry in. There is a great article from. KarenB but I don't know how to copy the link from one forum to another on my phone will post it tomorrow from work.

You can also use RBT's (round black tubs) or an assortment of other things to raise clownfish fry.

You do not have to keep live phyto, but you will need to keep rotifers. You do not need to use BBS (baby brine shrimp) and some breeders go straight from rotifers -> otohime -> larger otohime -> Crushed flake/pellets.

You can feed rotifers rotigrow+ or some other varieties of frozen phyto to your rotifers.
