Is it possible to take good pic using a iPhone 6 of led lit reef tank?
Some of my pic turns out ok but most are too blue.

I have the same question. I have an iphone 6+ and all my pics are washed out blue. I know that its a white balance issue, but I would love some feedback. I dropped my gopro into my tank and I got the same blue result.

Yeah. The new iphones take great pics. I put mine right up against the glass and use the burst mode. Then, with a few on-phone adjustments, you can get shots like this.

150-gallon tank is lit by three AI Vega LEDs.

This is another one, just a bit back from the glass...still using burst mode. Same tank setting.

Ok so maybe the correct question is what type of lighting and which settings when you take photos. I always get washed out blues.

Member MikeC120 on here sold gel filters to hold over the camera to filter out the blue a while back. They work great and he only wanted a couple bucks for them. I'm not sure if he still sells them or not. Maybe PM him and find out. You can get very accurate colors with them. This was an IPhone 6 pic with a filter held over the camera lens.

For the ones above, I used no special filters. For me, the key was getting the phone's camera up agains the glass. This helped to give a nice, true image that resembles what the eye would see looking into the tank. Then, just some minor white balance, color, and exposure adjustments produced what you see in those pictures. Using burst mode also helps to catch the fish or corals in good positions.

No special settings. The AI vegas are on, with the full spectrum of lights activated. Images look washed out when I stand back and take full tank shots. But, near the glass, catching the light as it falls on the in-tank subjects...seems to work well, as shown above.

On the phone, using the white balance, color saturation, and exposure adjustments can help you fine tune the pics.

I will try the burst mode against the glass. I also purchased the ollo so that o can use the macro lense on the iphone6

The best pictures come from mostly all white light if you can turn off some of the blues and only use whites pictures will be 100% better. The sensors on the phone can't handle the blue

Did anyone come up with the best solution on this subject? I'm getting to much blue as well.

If you turn down the LED blues and the whites up, then you loose the color of the pic that you are trying to capture in the first place. I have AI Hydra 52's

Thanks

Has anyone tried using one of those clip on macro lens that they sell for phones? I have an iphone 6 and I am having the same issues. I love the colors of my corals with the blues on too (with whites on at the same time) but cant seem to capture good pictures.

If you want to get better pictures of the actual colors with your phone, I recommend using gel filters. I got mine on eBay and it makes my life so much easier. No apps to install, no post processing to do, etc. Below is a picture with a gel in the center to show the difference and also the ebay link.

Just play with all the orange filters and you will find one that makes everything look just like it does in real life.

I also use those clip on or magnetic rather, lenses that you get on eBay and they are pretty good. I rarely take out my Nikon these days. Below, I also shared a few pics I took with the macro lens and the gel filters.

Good luck.

Pretty sure you just saved me $300 I would have wanted to spend on a dslr camera capable of handling of the actinics. I just bought the filters off the ebay link you posted. Thanks dude I can't wait to post some pics of my chalices now that I'll actually be able to show them off under the true blue lights and not with the whites cranked up to 100%.
