Canary blenny-bite danger?

I am considering adding one of these to my tank and have read that this fish has teeth (fangs?) and can inflict a painful bite due to some sort of venom or toxin. I often have my hands in my tank while cleaning, re-arranging rock and corals, etc. How big of a risk or danger does this fish present?

You should be perfectly safe. I've kept a couple of species of Meiacanthus fangblennies (canary fangblennies and striped fangblennies) and was constantly rearranging things in my tank--even working very close to them--with no problem at all. Mine never showed any aggression towards me or any other animal in the tank. People freak out about Meiacanthus fangblennies because they're venomous, but IMO the worry is totally unnecessary; they're very peaceful, mellow little fish (except with other members of their own genus). I really don't think you'll have any problems.

As a person who handles (literally) these fish regularly, I have not gotten bitten once. However there is always a chance, but thats a 1 in a billion chance.

Meiacanthus blennies are soooooooo underrated. One of the more peaceful fish, and very interesting fish out there.

My midas doesn't even notice my fang blennies. I would guess a tailspot would be even less of an issue. Remember fang blennies are open water swimmers. No "hide hole" competition.

On a side note, I was once bitten by one when I tried to remove it from a blacked out bag by hand (the bag was not labeled correctly). It hurt like a bad bee sting. The physical damage from the rather large teeth (comparatively) was most surprising to me.
