Canister Ideas

Hello,
so I have a bunch of canister filters sitting around from the freshwater days, and want to put them in use. Hmmm, but dont know what to use them for :S

any Ideas what I should put in them ?

I have a 65G FOWLR system with a Skimmer and 2 PHs, 2 extra canisters can be used for that, what is my best bet on media ? (keep in mind I'm lazy so something that doesnt require too much maintanance :P ) are there any canister filter media that will help with nitrate and wont be a nitrate factory ? any Ideas are appreciated.

another one I'm hoping to use on my large system which is a 65G SPS reef, and a 25G seahorse and a 40G sump, that system is using Zeo, so again, not sure what to place in the canisters.

am I doing any good putting these canisters to use ? or am I better off leaving them ?

thanks all, lets make this a thread for the return of canisters into our reef lives lol

id just run some floss and charcoal part time when needed. Water should be real nice and clear with that.

I run a Rena XP series filter with a bag of carbon on my system, nothing else, empty baskets. Works very well.

I have a Rena XP3 on my 37 gallon reef tank. My LFS expert has had a reef tank on the same setup for 3 years and the tank looks awesome(the coral growth is so complete that you can no longer see the live rock structure at all)! I live in an apartment, so tank size / footprint was a concern. I modeled my system after this particular tank / setup in his store. I'm running biological(even though it isn't needed), physical, and chemical(Rena Crystal, and Phos-sorb) filtration in it. It is the only filtration on the tank... tank to canister and returned.

I know some people don't like this filter setup and say it's not good... but looking at this tank setup in his store, its maintenance schedule, and its end result... it's hard to argue with reality. I think based on method you can get a good result with multiple tank setup methodologies. Some people just get stuck on the idea that there is one ideal setup and I don't think that is true.

I have run Eheim 2217s for yrs with excellent results, chemipure and Po4 superb results if you know husbandry you can acheive great results with any method.
