Canon 40d

Got our new Canon 40d today and all I can say is WOW! Definitely love it. As this is our first DSLR i will be on here quite a bit asking advice from the experts, or anyone who chooses to chime in!

First few questions are

What Compact Flash Card is most often used with the Canons?

What is a decent tripod that wont break the bank?

congrats! I got 40D few weeks ago as well

it is awesome camera..

CF card is widely used in professional cameras, not just

Canon, but most of other companies that makes DSLR camera.

for Tripod, read the sticky on the top (I don't have one

at the moment so I can't give advise but sticky has some

good brand name towards the bottom of page)

Sandisk is quite popular and very reliable.

lol I read question wrong.. thought it was "why" instead of "What"

before CF....

and yes Sandisk is one of the popular brand and reliable (extreme iii for me)

I use an "eFilm" CF card which works like a champ. My local camera store didn't have any Sandisk and I needed a 4 gig card on the fly, so I said "what the heck" and bought it. I've never looked back. Sandisk does seem to be the bar all others are measured to, and they make a high quality product. I don't mean to take any wind out of their sails, but for me a less expensive alternative has consitently preformed well for over a year now. I did have one error way back...but all I had to do was turn the camera off and on again to correct. 7 or 8 months later I haven't seen the error again.

Congrats! I use the Sandisk Extreme III as well. I like the Manfrotto tripods.

I also use Sandisk CF cards and a Bogen/Manfrotto tripod/ballhead combo and am very happy with all of them.
