Canon announces 50D

It's a let down for me.

- Same AF as 40d
- Same 6.3 fps as 40d
- 15 MP on crop sensor... we'll see how it works out I guess.

It'll be interesting to see how the new processor handles the lager resolution.

My uninformed guess is that Canon is gearing up for a major upgrade to the 5D. They have some gaps in the product line right now. A 5D with DIGIC4, 10 or more MP, same or better AF sensors as xxD, double digit AF points, 6+ fps, and full frame sensor would be a sweet setup.

The AF adjust sounds like a promising feature.

The 1D*mkIII bodies have that. It's useful if you have a lens that is out of calibration but it takes some fiddling to make it work. It'd be great if you were stuck somewhere, dropped your lens and still needed to get the shot.

Beerguy-

Does it remember the setting for each lens? So say one of your lenses is a little front focused and you dial it in on the body, then you change lenses to one that is calibrated... do you have to reset the AF adjust? When you put the front focused lens back on does the AF adjust recognize it and revert back to your previous setting for that lens?

Just curious how it works.

My recollection is that it's based on the lens. So, for example, you have a different setting for your 24-70 than you do for your 17-40....

* edit *

Just double checked this and I was correct. With the 1DsmkIII line you can save profiles for up to 20 different lenses. It, most likely, is using the serial number of the lens to tell them apart.

I'm not certain how the the 50D handles this since the manual isn't available yet but it should be similar.
