Canon Rebel Xti problem

I have a several year old Xti and just started getting the dreaded error 99 (which is the catch all error). I have read and tried all of the "fixes" without any luck. So I now have the option of paying several hundred to fix this camera or buy a new camera. I am considering Canon cameras since I have some lenses that I could use. I am also considering a Nikon D90. I am looking for some opinions. Anyone got some that they would like to share?

I wouldn't swap brands once I already had lenses purchased unless something REALLY compelling made me want to.

In order to recommend a camera we would need to know what type of photography you do and your budget, to name a few.

I am having trouble with switching from Canon. But I am pretty disgusted with this needing to be repaired. And if I am going to be paying $250+ to get it fixed and may have other problems, I may just look at the Nikons. My budget is about 1k if I am buying a new camera. I can add lenses as needed.

I understand your frustration, but if it was me I'd look at it as a chance to upgrade, after all your body is a couple years old and there is bigger and better things out there now.

The T2i is a pretty exceptional camera, you can get it with a couple decent lenses for right around $1k.

My camera budget increased. I am getting the Canon 7d. I am looking forward to using a full frame camera again. It has been a lot of years.

Prepare to be disappointed, the 7D is not full frame. It's a great camera but it is still a crop sensor camera.

The cheapest Canon full frame you'll get is the 5D Mk II.

I still won't be disappointed... lots of other things to like. I was looking at a 5d also. But had decided to do with the 7d

Good deal You just said you were looking forward to full frame so I wanted to make sure you knew what you were getting.

The 7D is great, a guy at my work has it and I've borrowed it once to test it out, a very very nice SLR.
