Can't believe this!!!!!

Ok, so my husband had told a couple people at work that he was looking for a 30 gal tank for a sump/refuge and if anyone knew of one to let him know. One person said they knew a lady who had a tank she was giving away free but thought it was about 80 gals. Worth looking at we thought. We set up a time to look and just befor we go she says it is a salt tank with fish and live rock and thinks it is about 100 gals. She needs it to go cause her husband who recently passed was the tanks owner and she has no clue how to take care of it. We get there and this is what we find:

It's a 95 gal wavefront(not our first choice) but its free and one year old (next month). The gentleman was a petco user mostly as the system Fluvall hang on filter on one side and double Bio wheel on other. Standard double bulb lighting. Two maxi jet 900 power heads. Seaclone 150 skimmer. About 45 to 50 lbs live rock and about 10lbs sand.

Live stock is: Tomato clown, Yellow Tang, Sailfin Tang, Mated pair of Marroons, Blue Green Chromis and these that need help identifying:

Hope its not what I think it is. Also, there are all these sand tubes with blackish green strings coming out of them. Good or bad?
 
Sweet!! Great score there!! Hope you enjoy. I believe the yellow fish in the second id pic is just a simple Yellow Damsel.

Just a heads up though. Test the water for copper. It's not uncommon for FOWLERS to treat their tanks for ick with copper. You're probably OK though because the anemone type thing is surviving.

BTW, the shape is right for aiptasia but the colors are different from aiptasia I've seen.

The sand tube critters are a type of worm, they're also good indicators of a healthy tank.
 
The last pic looks like aiptasia to me (bleached out). I would remove it before it spreads out of control.

Thanks!! We really did get the best deal ever. Free is always good.:D All the fish are happy and eating today. We spent all day yesterday moving the tank. For the filtration system we were really shocked how quickly it cleaned up the tank. Its crystal clear today. The guy who had it never treated with any chemicals of any kind. That was comforting. You could tell he was just getting into the hobby but that he definitely enjoyed it. Ultimately we will be changing over my 65 corals and inhabitants to the new tank and trading or selling all that is in the 95 now. I wish we could keep the Tomato Clown. He has alot of personality. My Lion would eat him though I'm sure. Anyone else have any ideas on what these are? Thanks again!!
 
very nice. Those wavefront tanks can actually make for a really cool display. Tank looks like it's well cared for and could make a great starter. Looks like a great blank slate to work with.
 
Thanks madman that is definitely what it is. Can anyone confirm from our horrible photography if we indeed have aptaisa? It is all over now that we have had time to look more carefully. Could it be something else? Also thanks spleify that is a yellow damsel. Now we know all the fish.

it reminds me of some sort of rock anenome imo put a peppermint shrimp in the tank if it is aiptasia the shrimp will have it gone in a week or two
 
And if it is not then what? I will try to post more pics to help identify. There are about 10 the size of the one we posted and then there are a ton that are so small that they are hard to see unless looking very close.
 
Really looks like a aptasia. Especially if there are a ton more.

So, you really scored by an act of someones kindness. That's a nice looking tank.

About 20 years ago I met a guy who over the years has not let me leave his house without taking home a coral or a piece of equipment.
I try and do the same.

It was a mutual save. Her husband passed at his own hands and the tank was a reminder of him and her children didn't want the fish to die. The whole situation was unreal. All in all we got a great deal and we won't forget that but I think she had piece of mind too that the tank was going to people that care and enjoy the hobby and that it would become what her husband was going for with it. We will never forget.
 
All right now we have made it home and set it up we find the aiptasia is on every rock. We have two peppermints eating by night hiding by day from the hog fish. (There were 4) Will this be enough? We tried some lemon juice on a couple. They are really too small to inject though. Should we really be worried at this point with them being so small?
 
They spread. Personally I would get some joe's juice, you don;t have to inject it, just cover them with it. (within reason) and kill a few a day that way (powerheads off when doing it)
 
thats def aiptasia. pep shrimp and joes juice would work pretty good!!
you could add more pep shrimp if u would like. it wont hurt ;).

mayb if u sell all the stuff that was in the guys tank to a lfs or sumthing u could give the money back to the lady for her and her kids. that would be generous and really cool!!.. its up to you tho. im not demanding anything, only some kindness thoughts. :)
