Captive bred mandarins by Biota

If they don't put on some weight and don't show any signs of disease I may cut quarantine short. From what I have read they are very unlikely to have Ich because of their thick slime coat. Can anyone elaborate on that ? Risk vs. reward.

Captive bred fish that have never been kept with other fish have little chance of infection. Check with your supplier. If they were not in a fish system with other fish, you risk level is very low . If your supplier kept them in a fish system that shares water between tanks, risk of ich is low but risk of other parasite is high

What would you recommend treating with? I was going to do TTM followed by Prazi like i normally do. I have treated with cupramine, but have read that mandarins don't tolerate copper well.

So mine is doing a lot better today. He's been cruise the rocks all day looking/eating copes and he even ate some cyclop I targeted him with. I'm pretty happy he's perked up I was really worried I was going to find him floating this morning.

Glad he's doing well! Mine haven't taken frozen or pellets yet but are
Picking at the live rock.

TTM is superb for ich but a mandarins slime coat reduces that risk and TTM only eliminates ich not other parasites. I never use chemicals for treatment unless a fish exhibits symptoms. Find out if the fish shared water with wild caught fish and if not, I would not worry about it.

I think TTM is to stressful for mail orders fish and these look tiny a weak. I know it would have killed mine. That and i dont think ich is a but concern. Ii put mine in QT till i can get it to eat frozen

I had a good convo with frank the guy who is selling the mandarins through algae barn. Sounds like they are getting an awesome operation set up in Colorado. He said the supplier who is breeding them said that they are in their own system with no wild fish, but he hasn't seen it first hand to verify. He also spoke with one of the guys working on them who said they were eating cyclopeez and pellets. Mentioned that they need to fed in the same spot every day and they will catch on.
