Captive Bred Melanurus Wrasse!

Absolutely! My list of wrasses if like to see bed is very long.

Apparently the wrasses were pretty easy to raise. The copepod nauplii are not too difficult to get and the wrasses were eating pellets just 2 weeks after hatching. This might even be in the realm of being a hobbyist bred fish in the future!

Right... but to get the larvae to the granule eating stage (Otohime A is not a pellet, its a granule), they had to raise Parvocalanus.... and to raise them, they had to have thriving tet cultures. Your post made it sound a wee bit too easy ;)

I agree, maybe a bit too optimistic. Otohime is absolutely a pellet (I know, a very tiny pellet) and readily available to anyone that wants it.

The copepod culture is definitely the difficult part but this copepod species is also available to the masses. Just 5-6 years ago it was difficult to even know which species of plankton was even needed to raise a lot of these larvae.

Gresham here, Reed Mariculture's rep for the forums ;)

Indeed both are readily available, we sell both, and are the only distributor for Ohotime for the Americas, Middle East and Africa.

Otohime A1-C2 are not pellets, they are granules.
EP = Extruded pellet. Only the EP are pellets.
The S series are marumerized pellets but are not considered pellets due to the marumerization.

Ok ok, you win.

Ultimately these wrasses, or any other angel or tang, are not going to be bred like clownfish. I understand that. But I could definitely see it in the realm of possibility that a serious hobbyist could breed these.
