So after all my anthias came shipped with uronema which I thought to be a bacterial infection... I have ordered 3 more from liveaquaria. Does anyone have good advice to keep them comfortable in my quarantine tank? I have some chaeto in there, and 2 plastic aquarium decorations left over from my freshwater days. I also have a PVC T joint for them to hide in. I have the salinity at 1.020 since that is what the last batch came in at. This way I can get them acclimated faster.

Should I put any medication in as a precaution? Any advice would be appreciated. :)
 
I just finished 5 weeks of hyposalinity with an ignitus, resplendant and lyretail.

They did just fine until the salinity dropped to less than 1.010. I lost one of the ignitus but the others not only survived, but grew and their colors look great now in the DT.

If you don't plan on treating ich with full hyposalinity, there are articles written about how lower salinity helps conserve energy and improve growth.

i ordered 5 and one came DOA. I'm at 5 weeks(aimed for 6wks) of hypo 1.008-.009. Everything was going fine til about 3 days ago one died and another hardly even moves and would just lay on the bottom of the tank. A few times i saw it swimming vertical against the back glass. I'm thinking it is swimbladder disease, but i dont know for sure. I dont see it living much longer though.

So soon, I'll be down to 2 from 4. I'm bumping up the salinity to put it in my DT now.

I dont know how to prophylactic treat this fish. I'm being told they dont do well in copper. They were doing great in hypo til this 5th week.

I know its not common for anthias to carry ich, but i'm very anal with what goes in my DT. I am wanting to get a 12 carberryi athias total for my DT.

how many Anthias did you started off with and lost 1?
 
Thanks for the replies everyone! I wasn't sure if I wanted to go the hyposalinity route, but I may consider it. I figured that since the last batch had a salinity of 1.020 that this one probably will too. I just hope they don't all show up with uronema again... I will be getting some furan 2 just in case I suppose. the guy at my LFS said there are better times to order anthias like this one. He says bartletts are shipping really well right now. Only problem is I don't want those! I want the carberryis! lol. I'll keep you updated with the new arrivals as they come tomorrow.
 
how are you so sure that the carberryi's had uronema? from what i'm reading, the only way you can diagnosis this is thru a microscope. if the fish does have uronema, it almost guarantees death.

now i'm almost afraid to put these last 2 carberryi's into my DT. i guess i'll just keep them in QT for an extended period.

i do have plenty of microscopes at work(hospital lab), but i wouldnt know what to look for...

I've never owned carberryi anthias, but I do own dispar, ignitus, and a P. inermis. All of my anthias were treated with cupramine and prazipro, I didn't lose any in qt nor did any of them look remotely stressed from the treatment. I've qt'd alot of fish with cupramine including my anthias, my leopard wrasse and every other fish in my dt, I've never had a fish die from the treatment, nor have I had one stop eating from it. I feel that cupramine is a very safe medication.

I don't know for sure but by the looks of the pictures on google it looks identical to what my fish had. I was treating for bacterial infection and it did nothing so my guess is bacterial is not what they had. They did die. I'm hoping this batch will fare better. I bought a large variety of medications today along with Kent Zoe to help in case I get sick fish again.
 
how many carberryi's did you get the 1st time around? how long did they lived?

i'm down to one now... the other 3 were doing so well last week and all died in a span of 4-5 days. i was all excited thinking they were going in my DT soon.

not sure what i'm going to do now. originally i wanted 6-12 anthias in my DT. i might consider other species.

I got 3 the first time and 1 died that first day. he had a visible large red mark on his side almost like he was bleeding from the inside. The next one died the next day in the morning. Then my final one died early the next day. I contacted liveaquaria about the problem right away and they suggested treating with melafix which did nothing. These fish weren't even swimming, they were hiding under things. If these don't work out this time, I will have them credit my credit card account and order from a LFS this way they can deal with the deaths.
 
The 3 anthias that I got today look excellent!! I will take pictures later. These are much smaller than the previous ones I had and they are swimming around and even ate some mysis. :)

I took a couple pictures of the new anthias, one came out good, the other 2 are a bit blurry as they move so fast and they're still unsure of their environment. These carberryi anthias look a bit different than the last ones I had, but they are still beautiful and seem healthier. 2 of them are eating pretty vigorously and 1 seems a bit shy still.

Mine looked like this that came in a few weeks ago

Most thought it was dispar, and live aquaria has not gotten back to me. Everyonce in a great while they will lift their elongated spine which I guess makes it a carberryi. Otherwise it swims normally and you have no idea it has an elongated spine.
