Hi just wanted know who is running carbon and are using reactors or filter socks with it and if so how often are you replacing the carbon, I added a sock to my 210 when I intorduced my rainbow bta anemonies cause I already have a large carpet anemone in my tank just wanted it to combat the possible release of toxins if the decided to compete any feed back is much appreciated thanks

Carbon is not a fail-safe for chemical warfare. Usually, once you see the effects of chemical warfare it has already effected other livestock. Is this a reef? I don't recommend mixing these types of nems, especially in a reef.

But to answer your question, when I run carbon it's with a tlf reactor and I replace every month.

I've been making it into a reef was fowlr I'm aware that I shouldn't have both types of anemonies trying to find a home for the carpet they have been good for a week and a half, I put the carbon in two days before I intorduced the two bta nothing has happend yet but I kinda think its a ticking time bomb hoping that since iys a large tank I will be ok for awhile both are on opposite sides of the tank

You're right, it is a ticking time bomb. Hope you can rehome the carpet before anything happens. Good luck.

I don't think anemone are allelopathic. I thought they only defense/offence was nematocysts. At least I've never read otherwise.

Nematocysts for hand to hand combat and neurotoxins for chemical warfare. At least that's what I've understood to be true for many years.

I'll have to look that one up. Very interesting. I've kept different anemone together with no ill affect...a bta...sebae...and condy in the same tank. Is it just carpets then?

Yeah I figured we were talking about big nems. Just never read that about them before.

I've been researching this and so far the only references I can find are how anemone are very sensitive to alleopathic warfare but nothing so far that states definitively that they use it as an offensive measure. So far nematocysts are all I find.

Awsome thank you I appreciate it everything is fine and I have found others that have done the same thing with no bad experiences appreciate it!

On a side note, it doesn't hurt to run carbon anyway since it's a great way to clarify the water.

Could be true. Still, nematocysts battling can end in disasterous results. Regardless of the method, nem on nem crime is very real. I believe there is so much unknown about these creatures.

It is, certainly. My maxi mini have gotten stung by the sebae. They shrink up for a bout a week and move away out of range. But, I've also had a condy and a BTA touching each other with no issues so I think not all will fight. Which do and which don't I can't say other than what's within my own experience.
